Knee injury from running.

    Hi,

I tend to run a lot, and got my first injury at the weekend. I usually have some mild knee pain while I'm running at the beginning but usually it goes away as the session goes on. But last weekend I got a bit of sharp pain on the inside front of my left knee. I get a jolt of pain while running if my leg moves a certain way. It happened half way through the running session, and got worse over the following few minutes so I stopped. Really just wondering if I need to see a doctor with this or not.

At the moment, there's no pain at all when I'm not moving or standing around. I noticed that my leg is a little bit unstable when standing straight or walking (wobbles a little back and forth), I do get a bit of pain when going down stairs. Other than this pain is present when I try to run.

Has anyone had experience of a similar pain? Or have you any idea what I've done wrong?

    Thanks for all replies...

    In before the lock :D

Don't run on it and go see the doc/physio if it doesn't go away in a few days. RICE is helpful too.

Ya I'll just walk for now. The thing is I have a feeling it's my runners that are causing me grief, don't know for sure. If it's not better by Friday, I'll follow your advice and make an appointment for my doc.

Disclaimer: Not an expert by any standard but my experience.......

I had pretty much the exact same problem earlier this year and it was caused by my new runners - ones that I had been reccomended after a gait analysis. I was given runners suitable for a slight pronator after the analysis and within a week or so I started to get severe pain in my right knee (the side that pronates most I was told during the analysis). After I went back to my old model of runner (neutral gait) the problem dissappeared overnight.

You wont, or at least shouldnt get medical advice here...

But never ignore a niggling pain as you say you did. Its telling you something is wrong.

If you dont go to the doc, get yourself to a good sports physio who understands the mechanics of running, to suss whats hurting and what caused it.

I would say dont run on it again till youve had it looked at.
