just got my acceptance letter from BTEA!

im very happy i got this as it was a struggle.

    i have a few questions.

1- the letter says i need to have written confirmation from the college registrar's office that im fully registered etc. does this mean i have to go to registration day, pay the 1,500 euro and get them to give me a letter stating ive paid and registered?

2- do the BTEA help people pay the 1,500 registration fee?

3- am i entitled to claim rent allowance aswell? im moving next week and its 6 hours drive from home. should i contact my local rent office, or the rent office to where im moving?

    thanks for any help!

    1. You do need to give them a letter saying that you registered for the course and are commencing it. But there is more than one way to get this. Whether or not you pay the reg fee yourself or your maintenace grant pays it you should get a letter of some sort saying youve registered. They dont need to know if youve paid it yourself and are awaiting a refund after your maintenace grant goes through i dont think.

    2. The 1,500 euro reg fee is paid for by the vec/county council maintenace grant scheme which im sure youve applied for?

If successful in getting it they will pay all the reg fee for you and if its not sorted in time for registration you pay the reg fee up front and you will get a refund upon getting accepted for a maintenace grant. If you pay up front and dont get accepted I think you still get something like 50% back of your 1,500 euro. The BTEA does however give you 500 euro at the start of the year last time i checked but only after showing proof of registering.

    3. I havent a clue about this last one tbh. Its said that you get the max amount of the JSA/JSB not sure if that includes what you were getting beforehand. Head on over to citizensinfomation/studentfinace/social welfare websites to see if you can find any info on it.

I also was lucky enough to be accepted for this just last week and this is all the info i read up before applying so some could have changed since last time i checked.

I have a question though. You dont sign off do you before registering for college? You let them sort it out and switch it over I would of tought am I right?

and also do you have to have the end date of the year of study on the letter of registration from the college so they know when to stop paying you for the current year?

ok, i got rejected for the maintanance grant.
basically, i cant prove residence from october and november last year, but can prove it from december onwards but they still told me no.

i have to pay the 1500 by september 10th, but i cant afford it! what can i do? i dont want to tell the college i cant afford it, they might turn me away.
has anyone got the btea to pay the 1500 service fee?

swamps, the facilitator told me i need to provide the registration letter, and my bank details. once i begin college and they recieve proof im in college, they will change my payments over automatically.
as for the end date, i rang the college, they told me to put down this year's end date as june 2010.
but the facilitator wrote june 2012 on the form under neath 2010.

Thanks for that mate, save me the wait from going down there and asking in person. Yeah they have my bank details and I just put down may 2011 as my course end date so hopefully that will all work out and theyll find out somehow in the future the end date of the current year to stop paying me for the summer. Probably when it gets closer theyll send a letter requesting it.

Sorry about the maintenance grant man, that is the main way of getting the reg fee paid for you as far as i know. I think some colleges let you delay the payment by a month or so after the proposed registration date and then you pay up but you have to tell them this at registration day I would think. Also i cant see them turning you away saying you cant afford it atm. Theyll work with you Id say and try help and inform you of what you could get to help you.
