I was following this up in Politics.ie and thought I would give it a mention, .

The European Commission and European Parliament want Ireland to vote Yes on October 2. They also plan to send staff to schools before polling day.

    Is that appropriate?

If this is true It would be a very clever move on the Yes part, Although the majority of kids cannot vote they will no doubt return home and may try to convince their parents and family to vote yes

It is disgraceful that either side should try to manipulate schoolchildren, and presumably seek to influence their parents in this way.

It would also be an unethical use of taxpayers money and should be highlighted in the media and parents should contact the schools to defer these visits until after October 2.

Has anyone else herd more of this?

I don't think that thats the motive, I reckon that the children of the current school going generation will need to be pro europe (going forward!) and giving them the early speech on how great Europe is will influence such. The young kids will probably regard themselves as European first; Irish, Brittish, French etc etc second in 15/20 years.

Are they going to do some manner of High School The Musical number about voting yes. Y'know, to get down with the kids!

Or perhaps some manner of Twilight-vampire related nonsense to appeal to their dark sides.

Or something to do with knife crime perhaps. I hear that's very popular with the young 'uns.

    What they're doing here is

Not really what your thread title implies.
"EU Commission plans to send in crack team to brainwash school kids prior to Lisbon 2"

Maybe keep the propeganda out of Boards too.

Its an incomparable example for god sake:

    1. Its not bloody Nazi Germany - or Nazi Europe, we live in
    2. Europe objectives are not ethnic cleansing.
    3. Hitler? ffs thats always the bloody answer around here - naturally almost everything the chap did was bloody evil.
    4. Theres not only 2 shades of Europe: Hitler or Conformity.
    5. WE CAN HAVE POLITICS IN SCHOOL WITHOUT BEING HITLERS YOUTH FFS.

    [citation needed]

Also it's absolutely terrible that kids might actually learn about politics in school. Brainwashing indeed.
Never has anyone ever learned anything about politics in school that wasn't evil government propoganda.

All authoritarian systems try to indoctrinate children. Methinks their parents won't be too happy.
