Simple encryption program

    Hi all,

Apologies if this has been asked already but i was wondering if anyone knew of a simple, lightweight program to encrypt/lock files on my computer. I share a computer with several people and i want to be able to lock my photos and other files so people can't go snooping in them.

It would be a bonus if the files would remain encrypted while on a memory key but if not its not a problem.

    Thanks for your time,

    Cian

    What OS?

If you're on Windows XP or newer, you might be able to take advantage of its built-in encryption. Otherwise, I hear good things about TrueCrypt.

    truecrypt or freeotfe

freeotfe has a nice feature where you can put an encrypted volume on a memory stick, and view the files on another pc without needing admin rights.

I could never understand that limitation with Truecrypt. It's not immediately clear what the encryption scheme is like for freeotfe, must have a better look at the website.

This limitation has been removed in version 5 of TrueCrypt.
Ther is now option to install or extract, the extracted version can be run as a luser.
