Help with Damp Wall!

The house is part of a terrace and each back garden is divided by a very old (200ish years) old stone/mortar? (wall about 2m high). Recently the interior wall which butts up to the exterior wall has become damp. It extends the same height as the external wall and about .5m inwards. The wall feels wet to touch and plaster is coming off

I have no idea what trade I am to consult (don't have a huge budget). Do I have to consult a damp proof specialist or do you think the wall just need to be resealed/repaired?

Any advise/recommendations of people to fix the problem on what to do would be much appreciated.

First thing I would do is give a full report with photos / dates to your insurance co. Most policies will cover all or most of the damage. After that you should get either a damp proof specialist or an experienced builder. The insurance company will want an explanation of the cause of damp in writing from a professional and estimated list of damage - structure, furniture etc. Be very thorough in this list, if in doubt including anything that sounds relevant.
