we had the majority of our windows in before pumping the insulation, makes more sense to have them in before you pump the insulation.. however, if you're putting in rigid board insulation in the cavity, you'd be doing that before the windows..

If its a renovation type project where you're getting "dry-lining" (internal insulation) done then you need to have the windows in first.

Changing windows can be a messy process with plaster having to be hacked back in most cases to simply get the windows out, so it doesn't make a lot of sense to get the inside walls insulated and plastered to come along and hack it all away to get the windows out.

So for any insulating of an old house, be it having a cavity pumped, dry-lining or external insulation I would say get the windows in first as it gives the following trades something to work to.

It would be best to fit the windows 1st as it would be a better job if you are drylining I have never seen windows put on after the dryling. If you are pumping your walls it would prob be best to put the windows on first to avoid rain going into the cavity.
