So my NCT is next week and both struts on the boot of my Hyundai Coupe are broken, as in it still opens but just doesn't stay up. Considering they'll have to open it to check spare tyre etc, can it fail because of this? They're a dealer part and cost bout €140 smackers each so really hoping I won't have to replace them. NCT manual doesn't say anything about this.

They don't check for the presence of a spare tyre. I asked last week when getting my NCT as I have removed my spare and didn't bother putting it in from the test.

However I am sure they might deem your bootlid a hazard to fingers!

If you need to replace them, call a breakers though
