when i turn on the power button on the shower noting happens and the red neon light on the outside switch goes off with the switch stilled turned on, push the power button on the shower off, outside light on switch comes back on

took the cover off the shower, turned on outside power switch and checked for voltage have voltage but when i turn n the power button on the shower the red light on the outside power switch goes off and no voltage to the shower, there is a bit of carbon dust inside shower unit,
plus at the back of the outside power switch with red light two wires
    look a little burned

any one any ideas on what is gone if its a simple fix ill do it myself but if its a bit more involved il get some one to do it

That can happen if the temperature control has been turned up to maximum. Happens because the potential flow rate through the heater can is insufficient and would result in scalding if it continued. I have no idea if that is your problem, but it would be worth checking the temperature adjustment dial (the lower one), and also check that when you turn the knob the spindle also turns.

When you refer to the outside switch with the red neon light I assume you mean the cord pull switch outside the shower cubicle that turns the power on and off to the shower. If that is so, and if the red neon on that switch goes off when you turn on the shower, then you have a faulty cord pull switch rather than a faulty shower. It is entirely possible to detect a voltage with that switch on, but that doesn't mean that any current will flow. Think of it like a garden hose connected to a tap that is not turned on but which leaks slightly. The hose has full pressure from the leaking tap (as your shower has full voltage) but if you then open the nozzle on the hose nothing comes out and the pressure drops. No water flow in the hose, no current flow in the shower. The neon indicator uses almost no current, so it can light with a faulty switch.

Therefore I would say you need to replace the pull cord switch. Easy to do but please make sure you isolate the power supply first!

I'd agree with ART6. Had a simular problem and it turned out ot be the double pole switch.

Make sure you get a switch rated for showers. An ordinary wall switch with a neon will not handle anything like the current a shower draws.

you will need a double pole 45 amp make sure you have connections tight.

its probably the 40Amp rated microswitch which internally is the on off switch ,one for each element.
common fault after overheating . Also check the spade terminal wires for bubbling due to overheating, this can cause bad connections and more cable overheating

Hi all, The T90 stopped working yesterday. It started humming the stopped pumping any water through. Now it just hums, like it's straining to push the water out. When I disconect the hose from the outlet , same result. Light on the pull cable stays on when the push button is activated. Any thoughts?

    TIA

    Al Morris

    What t90 do you have?
Does any water come out? Even very slow flow?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 206 ✭✭almorris

Hi Sleeper12, it's a t90si. Yes, water comes out, a steady flow very reduced in volume.

You Either need a new motor or new brushes
Triton no longer make parts for this model. You can still buy new brushes but you won't get a new motor. the link will get you a reconditioned motor Triton T90si motor

Not to bad I guess, e40 for a motor. How would I know if it's motor or brushes?

Take the brushes out and see if they are worn down to the nubs

Thanks again for the quick reply, much appreciated. I'll check the brushes tomorrow after work and post a result.

HI, replaced the motor tonight. All OK for 30 sec's then the new motor started to struggle and is displaying the same symptoms. ie struggling to push water through. Hardly any water making it through to the shower head. Only thing I did was put some thread tape on the two parts from the motor that connect into the rest of the shower. Hardly be thread tape blocking it?

I'm not sure what thread tape is but the pump doesn't need any tape. Try replacing the tap and see if it improves

One common fault in all showers lies in the flexible pipe to the shower head. The pipe is lines inside with a rubber tube, and they have been known to perish and close up, restricting or stopping the flow. Try replacing the flexible pipe.
