    Dear Boardies,

We hope you are enjoying your new 9664 (and are smug after reading the stunning review it received in the What Hi-Fi Supertest)

As a service to Boardies we hope in future to post firmware upgrades for popular stock items - however as always please check carefully that you install these upgrads properly and that they do not negate or alter any current setting that you may have on your existing equipment.

This 42PFL9664 upgrade is posted on the official microsite for the 42PFL9664 on the 27th August - so, it's a fresh one!

Here is a link direct to the firmware page

If any Boardies with a 9664 would prefer the firmware preloaded on a USB stick we are happy to send it out on a nice 4GB USB stick at just €14.99 which we are happy to refund when the stick is returned to us!

Thanks again and as ever drop us a line if we can assist in any way,

    ATB,

    John Mc & Crew

No -I'm chasing them today and I'll post if I get them (of course I should have mentioned that if your 9664 is connected to the web it will auto update!)

    I'll keep you posted,

I downloaded it last night, but it appears to be a reposting from the Firmware that was released back in August.

Might explain why my TV doesn't launch the update program when I put the USB key in.

I had the same problem and even tried "internet update" and "local update", neither of which worked. Lets hope something with a change log goes up - not that it needs to, tv is working awesomely for me!

Hey folks Just back from my hols and I been cooking up a niggly question for Ash, I know you love these!

I've set up my universal remote from my 9664 to control my BR, HC and Sky + box.

Now I know it's not the be all and end all of universal remotes and I also know that I passed up a craicin one in the Marantz RC9500 but if I got that then I wouldn't have my 9664 now would I

So basically when using the Sky+ on the remote you can't use the live pause or backup buttons. I've set it up using the wizard and the other buttons inc guide, play, ff, fr & all the other features work except the pause & backup which is annoying when you're used to it. Also I can't turn off the BR (3000) off with the remote.

Yes these are niggles but they would b great to sort out, now if it's the limitation of the std universal remote with the box, that's fine but I suppose I'll be looking for something that can cope.

I'm happy for the most part control wise as these are minor and mean I don't have to have 4 remotes now and herself is impressed too, but it does mean they can't be far away sometimes ifywim!

But before anyone gets carried away with themselves the Telly is fabalicious!

    Hick

P.S. posted this in another thread but it got lost in a deluge of other comments :)

    Hey Guys,
Just had another look there and the update seems to be updated (if you know what I mean). It's not showing an update from the 25th Sept and what looks to be a different version number (i'm in work so can't be 100% sure)
It's also worth nothing that Philips have just updated their Support Site. Tis nice! :)

    Still no release notes though!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,957 ✭✭✭Richersounds.ie: Ashley

    Hi Hick

It seems that you have hit the limits of the supplied TV remote - it is really only supposed to ofgfer basic control of other devices (I know eveyone will have different ideas as to what counts as basic features!!)

You may want to have a looksee at this
    www.p4c.philips.com/files/s/srt9320_10/srt9320_10_pss_eng.pdf

Its a learning remote with touch screen that can control up to 20 devices (that will keep you covered for LOTS of Philips Shop/RSB purchases:D)

These sell for €199.99 but I can offer it to you at €149.99 plus I have one in stock.......

Have a look and let me know what you think.

I' have left messages with the Philips bods about you original questions.

    Cheers
    Ash

thanks for coming back Ash much appreciated, you bloody vile temptress ye!
As a matter of interest what's the benefit of the RF support which seems to be the only thing this remote is lacking?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,541 ✭✭✭irlrobins

Ok updated my 9664 to 26.85.5 this evening. The one thing I've noticed is that it's removed my devices from the Home screen and added one called "Scenea". Selecting that brings up the butterfly test image and the message that the TV will switch off in 4 hours. No idea what the Scenea does apart from that. Added my devices back in but the order has changed now. Anyway of altering this?

Pics attached. Could be more changes but without release notes, no way of knowing...

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,957 ✭✭✭Richersounds.ie: Ashley

    Hi Hick

Yep all about temptation i'm afraid:D

Basically some lighting systems, HVAC systems and a few A/V devices use RF for two way control or non-line of sight control (eg used in conjuction with a RF to IR blaster etc)

    Your not missing much really!

    Nice remote though eh!
    Tempted????????????????????????????????????????????????

    Ash

What? What's this... we have a change log!! :)

So Scenea turns the TV in to a big photo frame using a pic of your choice (default is the butterfly - see below how to change - PDF can be found HERE )

    Q5492_0.26.58.5
    • Introduction of the extra feature named Interactive TV via the “ Red
Button ” on the remote control, initially, the feature works for Dutch
channels on those TVs in the Netherlands without a set-top box.
Interactive TV will not be offered in the UK, as the red color key is used
    for other interactive applications (MHEG)
    • Solution for Automatic Channel Installation on the UPC network in the
    Netherlands.
    • Except for the 56PFL9954H/12, the feature Scenea can be used. ( Scenea is a
new feature, which allows you to use your TV as a big photoframe.
By selecting Scenea you will see a butterfly, this is the standard Scenea
picture. You can load your personal picture by watching it in the content
browser, pressing the options key, navigating down to "Set as Scenea ".
Then your personal picture will get stored as the "Scenea picture", so
from then onwards when choosing Scenea in the Home menu you will see your
personal picture. In Scenea, any key press returns you to "Watch TV”. The
maximum displaying time in Scenea is 240 minutes. A few minutes before the
set switches of a message is displayed to warn the customer.
    • Improved cam authentication.

    Q5492_0.26.38.22
    • Support for DVB-S2 box.
    • resolves installation issue on DVB-C and analog networks in the
    Netherlands and Germany.

    Q5492_0.26.38.13
    • Full DVB-C Austria & Switzerland availability.
    • Improvement of robustness of the side control.
After updating this software the operation of the side control can be
slightly different as before. It might be that the TV needs a confirmation
of the key press. This means, the first press activates the side control,
while the second press executes the action. During 15 seconds the side
control will operate immediately on the key press. Afterwards, again the
    activation is needed.

    Q5492_0.26.33.14
    • Solving video drop outs when changing channels on external set-top box.

    Q5492_0.26.33.12
    • Reliability for Net TV improved.

    Q5492_0.26.33.9
    • Improvement.avi media via WIFI in the Netherlands.
    • Sound improvements for France.
    • Possibility to swith off the digital channel update in standby mode.

    Q5492_0.26.29.6
    • For France:Canal+decoder:solution for the preset sometimes skipped after
using back key or after standby.
    • Improvement on the startup behavior of the NetTV functionality .
    • This software is RiksTV certified.
    • Improved installation behaviour for DVB-C countries Netherlands & Austria.
    • DGTVi certified.

    Q5492_0.26.24.8
    • HD simulcast presets are not misplaced anymore by an overnight update
    installation.
    • improved USB Browse stability.
    • DVB-T MPEG4 support for Slovenia.

    Belmulletman,

Thanks a million for that! A change log - I'm impressed - the Philips geeks must be starting to take heed of Boardie requests - and to be fair again to belmullet - I did not even know about the Scenea function! Have you tried it? is it good?

Thanks again for all your help - any time you need a Saturday job just drop me a line ;)

It's pretty good alright. It's a massive photo frame. My TV isn't mounted, but i'd imagine it would be pretty sweet if the TV was mounted and having, like, a family portrait on it when you have people over and what not.
On a similar note, on NetTV there's a thing called ScreenDream where it'll turn your TV into a big frame. There's loads of different choices (classic pic, forrests, deserts, etc...). You should check it out:

    guys,

just hooked up my spanking new 9664 :-) drool.

Updated firmware for good measure... but i lost the progamme guide...
Before upgrading, I got an EPG for the analogue channels. after the upgrade, the programme guide isn't even listed under under the setup options... (see 3.3 in the manual )

    can anyone confirm this please?

    can you downgrade fw btw?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,582 ✭✭✭TouchingVirus

    can you downgrade fw btw?

Not unless you have the old firmware saved from the philips site - Philips only offer the latest firmware. Even then the update software may not load the old firmware if it detects you're on a newer one.
