May as well start a thread for this. Hopefully it'll be short! :D

Anyway I'll get the ball rolling with a pretty weird one...

check your language preference settings in case chinese is enabled in addition to english?

Someone posted one in another thread. Basically they were copying a file to a network share IIRC and one of the files already existed on the share.

To me it looked like that they passed the error/notification message to the file copying progress window instead of a message dialog. Easy mistake to make coding but it should have showed up in testing.

    /edit: here it is: http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showpost.php?p=61869530&postcount=166

Rosetta is on the Snow Leopard disc. Open the Optional Installs.mpkg in the Optional Installs folder.

    <pedantic>I'm fairly sure it's Japanese</pedantic> :pac:

But no, that's not the problem. And on closer inspection, it seems to be happening to everything in my Utilities folder except Quicktime 7. Very strange.

check your installation, I am having a big conflict with time capsule, when mac support is walking me through the process they all go into the customise on installation and rosetta is unticked. It may be that way through the whole installation.

    Hope it helps.

I am having second thoughts about buying SL after reading a lot of bug reports. However, it seems possible that it's upgrading to SL and not doing a full/clean install that is causing issues (ie. programs crashing). What do people think?

In all fairness though, the upgrade is now the "official" recommended way by Apple to do things and a full/clean install option isn't even directly available in the installer (you have to know that you need to use Disk Utility, etc).

I did a new clean installation anyway because I had a lot of junk to clear out and haven't had problems so far but even if the problems are due to using the upgrade option, Apple should have spent more time on QA for that scenario if that's the case.

Copying file over the network to my main machine and then copied someone into a folder on the mac and was asked do I want to replace a file but no options to click.

I tried to click where the buttons should be and also tried to resize the window but no luck

    Annoying,

I haven't experienced any issues so far. And most of the bugs I'm seeing here and elsewhere are minor and nothing out of the ordinary for a new OS release. 10.6.1 will fix most of them.

Some third-party apps are crashing/not working because they are not compatible with Snow Leopard. This happens with every OS upgrade. It's not Apple's responsibility. It's up to developers to get their apps up to date. They had plenty of opportunity.

10.0.0/Cheetah - now THAT had problems.

Do we have to pay 29 Eur to buy that update too ?

No. Once you have 10.6 the 10.6.x updates are free.

Put this in the other thread but belongs better here

    So far
    1) My printer stopped working and had to do some jiggery pokery to get it to work (solution here if you have the psc1400 series printer http://www.linuxfoundation.org/en/Op...g/MacOSX/hpijs)

    2) Little Snitch crashed and they have an upgrade specifically for Snow Leopard

Utorrent / Epson Scanner software / firefox / word /mozy etc all working fine

Not sure if this is technically a bug but I encountered an issue with Firefox and fonts. Basically, I got a lovely fright when I opened Firefox after a smooth installation to find everything in alien gibberish- no screengrabs, sorry. Apparently this is a common one and it turns out the fix was to open up Font Book and resolve duplicate fonts- but some of my fonts in Firefox are still looking a bit funky, will have to check it again tonight.

Aside from that it's been plain sailing so far, touch wood. And it freed up ten whole gigs!

    1) Try attach a file to a mail and then immediately try reopen it? Didnt this used to work? It now says it cant find the file in the download foldeR?

    2) DEFO seeing odd characters appear the very odd time

    3) Something has changed in ical that has broken my blackberry synch software

came across this fix on the apple support site

" Go to Finder preferences. Uncheck 'Secure empty Trash'. That will do the trick. "

    regards

Anyone finding their time machine backup is very very slow? I have about 8 gigs to back up and it's going since about 12 noon. Only now just reached half way (4:30pm). Not sure if SL is reformatting my backup drive or not.

I haven't installed yet, but my father has on one of his machines and it seems like a bit of a nightmare for him. The installation was hassle-free but he has had endless hassle with various apps. I'm reluctant to install for a while I think.

Here is what he said he was experiencing:
Sibelius does not work - no sound. This is a permanent problem with no solution from Sibelius. Down to the audio system in OS10.6 Solution : buy version 6!!

Filemaker 9 VERY FLAKY. Crashes out intermittently.

NO SCANNING! The HP scanner software will not work - at least with the laptop on WiFi. the PRINTER DOES work over the network - as a printer only. [since fixed]

PS CS4 and Illustrator both work

WORD opens very sluggishly but seems to work

    Excel works fine

ALL THE AMBROSIA stuff has lost the licences - typical Ambrosia nonsense.

    http://snowleopard.wikidot.com/

No boost in speed so far. Motion down to a crawl. Word also. TOAST does NOT WORK!! - not version 6 at least.

I have uninstalled iStat Pro and that "fixes" the issue of Snow Leopard not awaking from Sleep mode. :(

Since I installed SL yesterday Firefox has frozen twice when trying to attach a jpg to gmail, and Word has frozen when trying to insert a jpg too.

They're not the same jpg, wondering if anyone else has this/knows a solution?

    Okay some bugs:

    1) Bitrocket keeps crashing

    2) Microsoft Keyboard and Mouse Helper appear to be using large amounts of memory (ie more than a gigabyte)

    3) System preferences has crashed at least once

    4) The keyboard shortcut function for Undo (shift-command-z) in Pages, and one or two other apps, keeps reverting to command-z.

I had the same problem with software update failing when trying to download Rosetta. As the next post said, I got it off the install disc and that was grand. Worrying at the time though!

    nope.

i did have a problem with iTunes not recognising my iPhone 3G S upon clean install of snow leopard (i got a new hard drive >> installed leopard >> installed snow leopard).

i downloaded iTunes off the apple site again and it recognised it the next opening of iTunes.

I backed up my MBP and installed SL over the weekend.
I chose the Rosetta installation option and can use older apps (MS Office 2004) without any problems.
However, I was forced to update Parallels Desktop from 3.0 to 4.0.
As I previously used Tiger (10.4) I had not used Time Machine backup before. It took forever to do its first complete backup but is now working OK.
In the office today I could not print to our HP Laserjet printers. I deleted them and reinstalled. They then worked fine.

My only remaining problem is Wifi. I could not log on to WiFi router in office (Linksys) or my own WiFi router at home (Zyxel). I have tried deleting them from Network preferences and re-entering the setup and passwords but no joy.

From the look of the Apple Support Discussion boards it appears that broken Wi-Fi problems are widespread. Anyone with similar problem found a fix yet?

I had the same problem with sleep mode. I unchecked all energy saving/sleep options in the system prefs and that fixed it. But it does mean I now have to manually put the imac to sleep.
