Incident with Taxi Driver

Just said I'd throw this up seeing as it has been annoying me the last few days.

Was standing outside a pub on Friday night. Bouncer asked us to move onto the road slightly as people couldn't walk past. Now about 30 seconds after going onto the road a taxi driver who was parked in the taxi bay, which is also outside the pub but isn't used very much, reversed into me on purpose.

I stumbled and was a bit shocked so I went to to his window to ask what had happened and he said I was leaning on his car. I more than likely had made some sort of contact with the car but I was hardly leaning.

The driver could have simply pulled forward if I was leaning, or beeped the horn, or even asked someone outside to tell me to stop but to reverse into somebody is absolutley crazy! If his foot had slipped, I could have easily been dragged under the car.

When I confronted him ans asked for his name he then said "I should put it into reverse and run you down". I for one would not feel comfortable at all about getting in a taxi with a driver so aggresive and making a verbal threat to a member of the public is obnoxious and completley out of order.

I went to the Gardai straight away after he shouted at me but I decided I didn't want to bring it further as any further action would just be hassle. I do intend ringing the taxi commisioner to alert them to the issue though.

Has anyone else had a similar siutation?

You should make a written complaint to the taxi commissioner, IMO.

ringing the commissioner/regulator will make no difference unless your willing to take it further with the gardai. the TR make you fill out some large forms just to make a simple complaint.

If your complaint against a SPSV operator or service is criminal in nature, you should contact the local Garda station. In an emergency, you should always ring 999 or 112.

    from here

Hit the deck and stay there until the gards come, while praying he drives off.

No offence but if somebody was leaning or 'hardly leaning' against my vehicle and I was in it at the time I'd be pretty pissed off too. I may not have reversed into you but I'd certainly have told you where to go.

If you need something to lean against find a wall or a lamppost, leaning against a car which isn't yours whilst the person is in it is the height of ignorance IMO.

I agree, I would hate for someone to lean on my car and I can accept that if I was leaning then he had the right to be angry. But to reverse into someone is assault and battery and then to add verbal assault on top of it all is crazy. If he had simply asked me to move, I would have more than likely apologised prefusely. But at the same time I dont think I was even leaning on the car because the car hit me rather than it pushing me!

I don't disagree that his reaction was OTT, it was, but maybe he msitakenly thought you looked really pissed or something and thought that you were going to do some damage to his car.

His reaction was a bit mental but I suspect that there are a lot of very stressed out taxi drivers up to their necks in debt at the mo and their irrational actions are reflective of this. Not a nice thing to happen to you tho OP, esp if you weren't actually doing anything.

Are you sure you aren't exaggerating a little here? Did he just reverse while you were up against his car? I think his foot slipping and running you over is a tad bit ridiculous to be fair.

And I agree with the others, if someone was leaning up against my car while I was sitting in it, I'd be pissed off. In fact I'd probably pull off in a timely manner to ensure they fall on their ignorant fúcking ass.

I would have prefered to fall on my ass if that was the case.

And no, I'm not exagerating, something else could have easily gone wrong. He hit me and that is 100% against the law. He could have easily injured me. But I could have gotton over the fact he hit me. To then go on and say "I should have put in in reverse and run you over" in a very aggresive tone is over the top!

meh ..... not really an incident ...(my opinion) bring it to R&R if you want to whinge about it....see if someone cares (I dont really)

I'm not a taxidriver and actually hate most of them.....but - if taxi driver doesnt want people "resting" against his car ....dont park outside a pub/club !!! .... as for what he did .... meh ...you did "rest" on the car while the driver was inside ...thats pretty rude/ignorant.

at least you've learned your lesson !!! (even if taximan didnt learn anything)

Reading between the lines, I would say it sounds more like he let the handbrake off or engaged reverse ( in an auto you get a nice little bump as the gears engage )

Motto is " In future keep yer fat a**e off of peoples cars, taxis or not! "

Whats the big deal ? stay away from other peoples property and there wont be a problem.. why cant you just get over it.

Yeah ok the OP shouldn't have been leaning on the car but this is ireland, not America, unfortunetly we don't have the power to use force to protect our property and the taxi driver using his car to hit the OP was illegal whereas the OP leaning on the car wasn't!!

If it was me I would have said rite mate lets make a deal so, I'll pay for the "damage" I caused to your car and you pay for the 6 months that I am about to miss from work with trauma from this incident!!

Thats the American culture coming in here again .... lets all get loads of money from a minor (non) incident.....sue sue sue !!!

FFS - Trauma ..... of being an ignorant person leaning/resting on someone elses property while they were in the car.

    taxi driver was wrong.

I have come back to my car in Tescos to find a woman resting her handbag with metal cornering on the roof of my car. Approached and said smartly "would you like me to hold that for you or can I just driver off with it". She got the message even if it made little or no sense. I don't think driving into her would be appropriate.

OP, if you had drink in you the guards will not even entertain you. At the very least, write to taxi regulator and sabre rattle. At least you will feel you actually did something.
