I know 14 inch and gaming usually don't go very well together, so i'm looking for some advice.

Looking for good quality laptop (RAM / Processor / Graphics card) that will last a few years. Want something small enough to be portable and big enough to be able to play games on - hence the 14 inch.

Need decend RAM / processor for some work related programs that are quite labour intensive, and reasonable graphics for some moderate gaming.

Saw the ASUS N81VG and think it's fairly decent.

Any opinions? or other options - budget ca. 1000 Euro

That laptop is actually quite good. Good fast processor and 4GBs ram. The graphics are a bit of a let down. I think the GT120 is just a rebadged 9500, so it's not great. Try and find something with a 9600 if you can.

Okay, its a little bigger than you'd like, but the ATI 4670 is an excellent upper-mid card. Its about a match for the lower 9800M card (ie the GS) so its well ahead of the Nvidia mid-range cards.

The CPU is a touch slow by todays standards, but it has a simple o/c button to bring it up a little if you need it.

    Pretty decent for the money.

Thanks for the info. So graphics card isn't great, but would it be capable of playing games like GTA, Crysis, call of duty etc - don't necessarly need to play them at max settings - just sufficient to be able to play games

COD4 would be fine. GTA and Crysis would perform the way they normally do with a mid-range laptop GPU - you're not going to be cranking those settings or getting 60fps :pac: But they should be reasonably playable with medium settings and resolutions.

Here's some benches for the 4670 I mentioned above:

Note that the GT120M you're looking at would be slower even than the 9600M GT (the lowest card in the test), so its miles slower than the 4670.
