Going to Germany for a few days next week and want to get something somebit decent for the Nurburgring.Im 22 with 2 years full drivers, so Sti's and that are out the question. It doesnt even have to be a fast yoke, something fun and cheapish is what I am looking for.

    Im thinking a Mini:pac:

Most the regular hire companies will hang you from a high tree if you go near the Ring. They have paid grasses there and will bill you for tyre/brake replacements whether they're needed or not, simply because you took it on track.

Read on here on Ben Lovejoy's excellent Nurburgring site.

you will probably be looking at http://www.rent-racecar.de/gb/

Be warned there is big excess on these so if you crash you will be poor.

Be careful of the standard hire companies, they have cameras installed at the ring these days.

Could the reg plates not be removed/hidden while on the ring to solve this problem?

TBH, unless you have prior peformance driving experience, I'd be leaning towards this:-

And window stickers? And reg plate surrounds? And I don't think you can obscure reg's while on the ring.

I was more wondering if you can hide a reg when on the ring than suggesting it as a way around rental company rules.

This then raises another question. If a car must have reg plates does that mean you Cannot bring a car to the ring on a trailer and drive it on the ring as such a car my not have reg plates at all and not be road legal in other ways also.

Let someone drive me round for the day, unless its schumi no way:pac:

I dont have any experience really, done mondello track day few weeks ago and did the hibernian ignition advanced driving test.Thats it, friends have less than I do as well.

Thanks for that link mountain, some really different yokes on that.

Alfa Romeo 75 150bhp is looking good for 199e.Or is that too weak? Would love the Clio though.

We are going to the Verzasca Dam to do the goldeneye bungee first then on to nurburgring, normal rental car would have been perfect but its way too risky.

You can pay to be driven round the 'Ring by Sabine Schmitz? Remember her doing the Ford Transit on Top Gear a while ago?

Birthday's coming up... must have a word with Mrs Fricatus! :D

Is the ring not an open road? I know you have to pay, but they have buses going round and other road users it. I'd assume whatever you bring needs to be legal somewhere .

I'm not too proud to admit that I'd love that. Around the Ring in an M5 driven by someone who knows what they're doing. And E195 for up to three people is good value.

That's my Christmas present sorted, that's for certain.

Of course, next time, I'd have to drive the ring myself :D

Yes there are, there are tour buses.. I've driven past them.
And vans. And people carriers with amused looking families onboard.

    Racing per se isn't allowed.
