Hey, hope someone here can help.

I'm trying to book a train on the Deutsch bahn website. When I select Maestro (my laser card is maestro) it asks for an account number/card number... My full card number won't fit in, and when I click proceed it won't accept it. Any clues as to what's happening?

It is a Laser card which is a system only accepted in Ireland. There is a cross-functionality with maestro but it is not 100%. AFAIR they will generally only work in cash machines and chip/pin POS transactions not phone or internet. The exception to this is for internet companies that have specifically enabled Laser card acceptance (a few overseas companies that do a high volume of irish trade have done this)

as vic_08 said nogo with Irish laser card. the german aquivalent is linked to german bank account - can't do international payment with this option. you need credit card for that.

    indeed
the details you enter normally are simply the (german) bank a/c details which then somehow gets processed through the banking system.
Your credit card though will work without problems.

and just a word of warning if you go for the electronic ticket option.
The actual creditcard that you specify in the booking MUST be present when you travel as this is swiped through the conductors ticket machine. And the owner of the credit card MUST also be there.

Just mentioning this in case you try and pay through someone elses card!
