Like countless kids around the country, my youngest started primary school today.

But it's for another reason I'm posting....

Yesterday my son and I went....Mountain Biking!

Or at least as close to mountain biking you can get around here :)

He's been riding his bike without stabilizers since a week afetr his 4th birthday and has been commenting on how it's a mountain bike so I decided to take hime to one of our local forest trails. (Pretty rough trails)

I have to say I was impressed by his balance and control. On more than one occasion he hit holes that should have thrown him but the only time he fell was when we stoppped and I asked for a 'hi-five'....he leaned over too much and fell :o

So....I'm writing as a proud father to spread his fame :D

Certainly the best 4 year old cyclist I know!

    Peter

Mine starts school tomorrow. He has been riding "Diego" without stabilisers for a while now, and has ideas about moving up to a bigger bike. He therefore regularly gets on his older sisters bikes (he can nearly get on the nine year old's).

It is quite entertaining watching him haring like a bat out of hell round the garden in his "Cav" glasses on a pink Barbie bike:)

    Fair play to you.

There is a piece in Issue 2 of "The Ride" journal written by a father who brings his son out cycling, and your post reminded me of it. The author of the piece bemoans parents who are insanely over protective of their kids and not allowing them to enjoy outdoor fun activites, instead preferring them to be in front of a DVD or a PS3.

If I ever have any kids, as soon as the cord is cut, they'll be up on the saddle.
