    alrigght guys,
i cover just under 21k a year mainly primary roads and motorways. Im driving a bora tdi comfortline at the moment and am thinking of upgrading to a 03/04 320d or 530d... but the petrol seem to be cheaper. Is it advisable to keep with the deisel or would it be much of a mucness if i switched to petrol?

    thanks

    Stay diesel..

I get 330miles to a tank of petrol in a beamer. I do about 25k a year. city & motorway. Nearly 250/300 quid on petrol a month. Tied to the car as i've put a few quid into it in repairs in the last few months and its worth peanuts with the way things have gone.

My next one is a focus van or a passat diesel..

Stay away from petrol if your doing over 20k a year.

    :o

With you r mileage diesel is probably they way to go unless there is a huge difference in purchase price that would cover the additional fiesl costs of however long you own the car for. Also the diesel will be easier to sell and probably worth more on resale too

I will be doing about half that mileage soon, and worked out that my 525 petrol costs about 1500+ extra to run per year over a 2.0 diesel. I haven't taken into account that I'll be doing less city driving, but I'd imagine that won't make a massive difference to the figures.

Do up a spreadsheet with the cars you're looking at with the expected MPG, cost per litre of diesel / petrol, annual mileage, road tax and so on.
