Reporting Obstructions on Roads

Last week I was driving along the M50 behind a large petrol tanker. It was very wide and it clipped the red plastic temporary roadworks barrier at the side of the road (near Blanchardstown Northbound). The barrier caught onto the back of the truck and kinda flipped out behind it. As the truck drove on (unaware I presume), the barrier was blocking more than 50% of the lefthand lane. I was right behind the truck but luckily the overtaking lane was free an I swerved into it. I could see the barrier in the lefthand lane in my rear view mirror.

I rang trafficwatch, but I think I have the wrong or an old number for it as it wouldnt connect. I didnt want to ring the emergency services as no incident had yet happened and I would be paranoid of wasting their time unless I actually saw a real emergency. A few juctions were coming up and I didnt want to be messing around with handsfree so I put the phone down and my goldfish brain forgot about it until now. :o

Who are you meant to ring about dangerous obstructions on the road?

Call the Gardai, they are the traffic corps essentially and they will either move it themselves or contact the council BUT in this case it would be the contractor.

I would just call the Gardai.

I hit oil on a road once and called the Gardai. She said she would contact the emergency council number that ONLY the Gardai have access to.

On the M50.ie web page there's an Emergency Freephone number 1800 77 50 50. Might be the same number that's on the (rather infrequent) M50.ie signs on the M50 as well, I'm not sure.
