    Hi all,

did a quick search on the threads already here but could not find one that hit this point.

Went to Djouce woods last sat morning for a quick spin with the OH - her first time out in a while and were surprised to see signs prohibiting MTB'ing in the area...???

Guess I am going to have to trawl the web for some similar spots we can got out on.

    Anyone any clue on this?

I remember no MTBing signs in all the woods on the mountains back 15 years ago. Didn't stop people though.

If you want to go to an official MTB track signs and everything, head to Ballinastoe wood

All the popular MTB spots in the Dublin mountains (other than Ballinastoe obviously) have these signs and they're never acknowledged or enforced.

    Cheers guys.
Just easing into the sport and had not copped these signs elsewhere.

Will definitely head to Ballinastoe - that is the plan anyway - but wanted to just hit s short trail and get a feel for the bike again.

    Cheers.

Thats not actually true, it's just that they are enforced so rarely that it might seem like they never are. I live quite close to Djouce. My mother and sister were in the forrest on our horses one weekday afternoon and were given a tounge lashing from the Ranger they happened to come across.

Plenty of people cycle (and horse ride) in the forrest and get away with it, you would be unlucky to be caught, but if you are don't expect to get off with a simple light 'don't do it again'

So what can we do to get permission to ride in places like this?
Surely cycling sensibly and going after the nutta's will encourage more folk to get out there - instead of making us feel like criminals and the nutta's still go out there?

I am much more likely to cycle around all the trails in Djouce than walk - and the peds I did meet on Sat I was v respectful to. One couple had dogs that seemed nervous - so due to the width of the path I dismounted until I walked my bike past.

So if I do get stopped - what is the worst that can happen?
Are there penalties or just verbal abuse?

that ranger would have no say there ,coillte own the rights to that area untill all the standing timber is cut down .
then it might be going into the nation drain on the country.
