Been looking at a few different ones today. Anyone know which, if any, would be better, or are they all more or less the same quality wise. They're all similar spec.

Toshiba mini-NB200 it's €369 in Soundstore in Cork and €429 in Harvey Norman's

Samsung NC10 with case just under €390 from pixmania including postage

Compaq Mini 700 €350 in Soundstore in Cork

    Thanks for any advice

    EDIT:
Dell mini €300 with 3 cell battery and <€350 with 6 cell

Not sure about the Toshiba but the Samsung has a nice matt screen unlike the Compaq, glossy screens are terrible when you're out and about IMHO.

    Samsung NC10 from Argos €329

    Cheap

The thing with netbooks to me anyhow is that they all seem to be in and around the same spec so really deciding comes down to the extras. I can vouch for the nc10 it's a sturdy piece of kit that has completely replaced my laptop.

It has a good battery (im getting about 6 hours 30mins at the mo) and it has done fine with everything i've thrown at it which is really just internet, word, light gaming (worms :P) and dreamweaver/photoshop. Only complaint for me about the nc10 is the hd makes a click every so often which is reallyh luck of the draw when buying one because its a specific brand that does it (cant remember). Ok sorry bit rambling tiiiiiiired

    Samsung NC10 from Argos €329

    Cheap

The one sold in argos has a poor battery life as it only has a 3 cell. The online retailers generally sell them with the 6 cell battery which is good for up to 7 hours.

When there's two models of the same Netbook typically, the cheaper one will have:

    3 Cell battery.
    No Bluetooth.
Intel Atom N270 (instead of Intel Atom N280)

Keep your eyes open to nipping of features when places mention a 'bargain\price reduction' between two seemingly identical models.

+1 for the NC10 .. as I'm a user ... haven't used the others though so can't say if they are good or not

(using for browsing ... light photoshop usage ... ftp ... SD card reader ... uploading photos ... light word processing and so on)

Oh and don't forget the Asus 1005ha, very tasty looking machine and get's in and around 7 hours battery life too. Definitely worth a look.

I've got the NC 10 very happy and ideal for on the move.

Let us know how you get on.

BTW Pixmania ok on price but if you have problems they are not known for their service. Elara seems to have a good name.:)

The Samsung NC 10 is looking good alright, seems to be getting good reviews and it's the cheapest so far besides the Dell. The argos one seems to have the 3 cell battery and the bluetooth connection.

I'm just looking up the Dell Mini 10 now to see what reviews that's getting. The 3 cell battery version is a bit cheaper than the NC 10 but it doesn't have bluetooth (that's not even that important just a nice extra). And I've read here that the NC 10 has a matt screen which people seem to be saying is better while the Dell has a glassy screen.

Does anyone here have/ever use a Mini 10? What are they like?

I have an nc10, no complaint, its excellent. However, my missus is selling her laptop, im selling her mine so I will be getting a new one now. I have to say I really like the look of the Toshiba NB200.
OP, the one in cork, at that price, will be the basic black one, which has a keyboard just like the nc10, but the fancy version(around 420 euro) has a savage keyboard(pic below), I think it looks the business, and it also has a powered usb, so u can charge your iphone etc through it even when the laptop is powered off.

that's the one they had in Harvey Norman's alright, I don't think the keyboard is worht an extra €60 though. The cheaper model is already coming in at the more expensive end when compared to the other netbooks I've seen.

Thanks for the help, I ended up getting the Samsung NC10 in Argos for €329 and it can with a slip case (similar to the one that comes with an ipod) in the box. Very happy with it so far.

Thanks to partyatmygaff for mentioning Argos, I wouldn't have thought of looking there ;)

Did you ask for a discount? They have advertised it with a free 3 broadband dongle but can't supply them.

Only the 3-cell, still should last well over the 2 hours so I'm happy enough with that and it's got bluetooth, a nice little extra that I'll actually use! None of the other ones I was looking at had that.

Didn't ask for one, I didn't even see the 3 modem mentioned until I read it in the argos book in the shop, and I have an O2 one anyway.

According to its specs that Samsung NC10 from Pixmania has a 128GB SSD.
Can that be right? I thought the SSD drives were actually very expensive.

There's no way that has a 128 SSD unless it's around €600-€700,Must be a typo..

I wouldn't buy from pixmania anyway,Took over a month to repair a damaged Cd player when we were told it would be 7-14 days..

I guess it is a typo.
I was looking at the (find out more) link.
I hadn't even realised there was a more obvious spec with a 160GB HD
