Apart from the 1.9 turbo diesel, didn't come with a turbo as standard but most petrol Irish Stilos have the same 1242 16v engine as the Punto and there are plenty of aftermarket turbo kits for them. There were a couple of Stilo Abarths sold here with a 2.3l engine and lots of toys - I'm still looking for a cheap one...

Any combustion engine can be fitted with a turbo. What did the noise sound like?

I think only the Stilo diesel had a turbo. Are you sure it wasn't just a modified exhaust on it or something?

    afaik, there is a turbo - a 5 cylinder 2.5 petrol.

Plus, there's the HGT 1.8 (non-turbo), but with an induction kit on it, who knows....... ??

Here ya go (the turbo, that is........)

    Good cars, btw.....

In this country there wasn't any turbo or HGT 1.8. The Punto HGT was a 1.8, the only high end Stilo was the Abarth with a 2.4. I've never heard of the 2.5 5cyl turbo, not to say it didn't exist, but it definitely wasn't on sale here or the UK.
The only Fiat turbo petrol from that era that I can remember is the 2 litre 5 cyl turbo that was in the Fiat Coupe. The engine could be retrofitted to a Bravo HGT, which had the N/A 2 litre 5cyl.
The newer turbo petrols are in the new Bravo, a 1.4 turbo. The rest are diesels.

no stilos never came in petrol turbo, the top of the range was 2.4 n/a abarth pushing roughly 174brake
friend had 1.2 16v and it was really nice car, reliable and well finished, never gave him a bit of bother like

this abarth here is cool, with f1 paddle shift gearbox

    Im 50/50
A person I knew who owned a Stilo never had his consistently work.
    Problems included
    • Alarms
    • Non starting
    • Engine cutting out
    • Numerous engine related problems
    • radio not working consistently
    • "City" steering button working intermittently
    • Dulled engine performance
    • Gearbox
    • Clutch
    • electrics
Basically, everything that could go wrong with the car did. After 6 or 9 months he was able to get his money back when the engine cut out and he lost brakes. Final straw type thing.

On the other hand someone else I know got one, the same year but smaller engine and it worked seamlessly for the couple of years he owned it and no doubt its still going. Not a bother :)

    Yup...
The engine was under powered and the handling was wallowy...

The Sunroof motor broke, the ABS went, the electrics would randomly die and the engine gave endless trouble.

Oh, and it had dangerously high levels of Carbon Monoxide in the cabin...

You could say exactly the same things about any 1.4 16V Golf...........

Is that the point though? This is a Stilo thread. People are outlining the bad points about the stilo as Im sure people would if the thread was about the 1.4 16v Golf.

That's another thing wrong with the Stilo: it looks sort of German. Italian build quality, German styling: it's completely backwards.

The only thing wrong with the Stilo is that it wasn't sold here with a decent 1.7L engine to provide a cheap hot hatch.
