I only have a 20 and the mo but wanna upgrade. Is 40 too big for a bedroom tv? may go 32 or 37 if it is.

    Get a 50 incher (like me) :D:D:D:D

i am 11ft away from a 40" - apparently a foot or so outside the recommended 7.5-10ft distance. but thats for 1080 content, 720p you could be further. regardless of definition its a comfortable size/distance - but don't disregard definition.

n don't get a dodgy brand telly. sammies are cheap n reliable for a (lazy) start..

I agree with Star Bingo 100% dont get a dodgy brand. You can find good value Panasonic, sony, phillips, samsung and LG's if you shop around.

For a few dollars more you could get a decent brand with digital tuner and free wall mount:

Make sure to get at least 720p.
Bigger than 32'' would be nice.
Also make sure whatever you pick up has a digital tuner.

    n yeah paul this chart

    http://www.engadgethd.com/2006/12/09/1080p-charted-viewing-distance-to-screen-size/

have been sceptical about recommended screen sizes from american sources, may end up requiring bionic peripheral vision to catch everything onscreen. but i tried the definition test, they may well be right.

    to a degree

    .

I am going to buy a new tv myself. I was thinking of this one here

It says it costs 589 in argos but u can get the same tv at xtravision for just 450 euros.
there is also this in xtravision for 479 euros
    http://ie.sanyo.com/Products/View/CE32FD90-B
I am not sure which one to go for. Do u think sanyo is better than LG?

i'd say keep it strictly Sony, Samsung... dunno what else i personally would consider, no expert. theres a reason you see lots of samsung about. they tend to be sleek, affordable and compatible. theres a movie mode that smooths framerate in avi's mpeg n games.. you could find 1 from 1-2yr ago for under 800 42" full HD - hmm LG.. my brother has an LG, the blacks are grays. fairly crud - and not a pretty TV at all

another thing, if u settle for one u think might be slightly too big, mere weeks/months later u may think its slightly too small. watch out for that! :pac:

In this case I'd say go for the Sanyo. Its full HD (1080p), the LG is HD ready, 720p (although this probably isnt noticeable for a 32''). The Sanyo also has more HDMI ports. Cant advise on the brands, both are probably good.

ya the sanyo one looks better alright. i didnt see it on the xtravision website. the lg one was there though

Argos is ridiculous!! Avoid it... I'm looking at komplett where, for example, the LG 32LH2000 is only €377 (Compared to Argos at 589!!!) and the Samsung LE32B450 is only €407 but neither are in stock atm :(

I'm trying to set my cap at 400 for a HD Ready 32" TV and there seems to be plenty of good brands available. BTW a cheap one would be €350 (Hisense at Harvey Norman) and I'm pretty sure I've seen more unrecognizable brands for 300.

on komplett is it safe just to have a tv delivered by an post for 15 euro instead of the other companies which are a lot dearer. like what happens if its lost or damaged by on post

See if any of the shops have old stock of Sony Bravia 32W4000's on sale. It should be pretty cheap now as the 4500 and 5500 series has replaced it, but the 4000 series remains the best 32" TV with the lowest input lag of any set which is why I bought if for 1080P gaming in the bedroom. It's even good enough to use as a PC monitor.

    http://www.hdtvtest.co.uk/Sony-KDL40W4000/Picture-Quality/
"We measured the input lag on the Sony KDL40W4000 to be 30ms better/ faster than our resident Samsung F96 reference, meaning that it's probably on par with a CRT (as good as it gets). "

What HiFi Awards 2008 - best 32" LCD

    840 pounds on Amzaon?

If thats the guideline then forget it!

i do know if u need a screen asap this is an absolute bargain

    http://www.powercity.ie/?par=10-14-50B451&pages=1&prod=50B451&brands=SAMSUNG

other than a supposed risk of still image burn-in do a Plasma's advantages outweigh an LCD's for gaming? i'd hop on this if i wasn't moderately content w/ 40".

EDIT: "I burned life bars from a game into the screen of a plasma TV and my system was NEVER left to sit. any stationary object on the screen could burn itself into the screen."

    avoid maybe ;-

Thought they would have dropped in price by now, seeing as this set is out over 1.5 years and was 999 at the time. Not so bad for me so :D
