    Just wondering what peoples half-marathon v's marathon times are??

    I.e you might have run a 1:40hr in your last half, and then your next full marathon time was 3:39hr etc..:rolleyes:?

    Would be interesting to see the relationships between the two!

    Half = 1h33
    Full = 3h30

    Half = 1h33
    Full = 3h30

    Mr McMillan says 1.33 = 3.16 GoHard though I can't say that's correct from experience :pac: IE, that calculator will give you a rough idea.

    x2 and add ten mins

    or a really good one

    run 8x800 intervals

    if you do them in 2min 50=2hr 50m marathon..
    this works!

    Yasso 800s - do not work in my experience.

    nor mine but I remain hopefully as they give me a great marathon time :D
    Being serious, I think they are more a training aid to gauge training efforts rather than predictive tool.

    mcmillian doesn't work at all over long distances is another thing I've found.

    Half: 1 41
    Full: 3 40

    half -1:25
    full -3:00

    so the multiply by 2 and add ten minute is perfect in my case

    Another one is 2.04 times your Half time.

    The one I find best is twice Half + 10 mins (as others have posted). Best I've ever managed is Twice +4 mins.

    I think the Yasso repeats is actually 12 to 16 x 800. Think how long that takes! Take 12 repeats at 3:00 (for 3hr Marathon), If you're doing equal recovery, that's 72 mins minimum! - plus warm-up, cool-down and stretching. That's some session! If you do 16 then add 1/3rd to that!

    half -1:25
    full -3:05

    In contrast to SUNGOD I have to add a bit more :mad:

    I understood it to be 10 repeats. Which is actually a great session and do-able, especially with equal recoveries. But a universal predictor it isn't.

    Hey Roy! Yes, I had a look at McMillan after I ran the half (2007). I didn't believe the 3h16 prediction but it made the 3h30 look vaguely possible as opposed to ludicrous.

    I didn't do the training to come close to the 3h16. I did 2x14, 1x16, 1x18, 1x22 mile LSRs in the lead up to the marathon and I was probably averaging 2/3 runs a week. I was over the moon to crack 3h30.

    Next year I might aim for 3h15 or (whisper it) BQ - 3h10.

    Would love to hit 90 minutes for the half at some stage.

    I stand corrected! I went from (faulty) memory. The original article on Runner's World, by Amby Burfoot (and I thought it was Joe Henderson), is here.

    10 is a hell of a lot more do-able than 12-16. It's still a hell of a long session, when you factor in warm-up, cool-down and stretching. I figure close to 2 hours total.

    At the slower end of the scale, I did my first half in 2;10 and my first marathon in 4:36
    Recently after more and faster training I managed 1:57 and 4:24.
    Not sure I have it in me to break 4 for a while but perhaps I am just not pushing fast enough on the big day? Fear that I will burn out before the finish makes me hold back and I run at 75% WHR on the day pushing to 80% last few miles.
