Using phone for internet connection

Hi guys. Just a quick question.

I might need to use my phone via 3G to have an internet connection on my laptop. I've taken a look at the prices on the Vodafone website here.

    https://www.vodafone.ie/planscosts_bus/data/

Just to be sure, I'm on pay as you go so I'm stuck to option 2. Its say .02c per kb and after a certain amount of kbs it becomes .001c per kb.

    Just to be absolutely sure.

    A. That is .02c which is €.0002
    B. Does kb stand for kilobytes or kilobits ?

    Thanks.

They are the business rates you have linked, im guessing that was a mistake as you said your payg :)

Payg is 99c for the 50MB daily allowance and 2c per KB thereafter.

    more info if needed: http://www.vodafone.ie/vlive/internetmobile/

That's great. Better than the business rates from the look of it.

That will allow me to conect to the entire net via my laptop for 99c per day (50MB max ?).

the 99c is for vodafone live, its not the full internet.

Something closer to the full net is the isp apn which is 19c per MB.

OK. So if I want to connect to the rest of the net it is 19c per MB with a minimum of 99c for the day ?

    Nope, both are totally separate.

One uses live.vodafone.com, while the isp one connects to isp.vodafone.ie

Now the proxy's gone, it appears to be the full internet.

Do any of the PAYG services allow use of the phone as a modem? I tried this and it didn't work.

If you use the prepay (Ready to Go) ISP APN, at 19c/MB, this should allow you use your phone as a modem.

I use this handy Vodafone App -

    http://www.business.vodafone.com/site/bus/public/enuk/support/10_productsupport/10_via_the_phone/05_summary/p_summary.jsp

It is set to use the HS (high speed) APN but can be switched to ISP.

It's keeps track of your connection speed and has a data counter too.

i used the 99c proxy one and it worked

all payg and bill pay thingies will let you do that only some of them have the proxy like vodafone does so you are limited to a messed up version of HTTP and nothing else
