    HEllo everybody,
I will probabily buy a car soon and I've noticed that used cars are much cheaper in the North of Ireland. I am just wondering how much I have to pay to register the vehicle if buy it there? Is it still convenient or not?

    Thanks a lot

    Maria Laura :)

Yes, you must pay the Vehicle Registration tax within 24 hours of bringing the car into Ireland. A bit of hassle is involved, but there would probably still be some saving over buying the equivalent car here.

No big deal,,, just make sure to bring ALL the vehicle documents with you when you buy.
Vrt is dependant on age and cc of vehicle.
you will have to give your pps number when paying vrt.

Its called a V5, which seller normally would send away, but in the case of buying to register in Republic, it is to be given to you (make sure you get it) because the vehicle is being exported.
Bring that V5 to the nearest customs office and pay your vrt ( they do not accept cash) bank draft or something simular.
You have to tax the vehicle with the form the customs give you which states the new registration number, and the tax office will sent the form away to Shannon and you will get the new book for vehicle in post a week or 2 later.

If you log on to revenue on line website the vrt calculator will show the amount of vrt payable on most cars
