no green spirit here - there's not enough evidence

I have quoted here a recent post which has been locked by the moderator - if you read through the locked post quoted you will probably guess that the moderator is himself one of the loudest hurlers :pac:

I have been reading through the so called green forum for awhile and it includes the biggest load of antis I have ever come across.
Most posts are started by people who have interesting discussions and they often quickly get SLAMMED by really aggressive comments :(

I know for a fact that more than one person has already complained about this moderator and also received a really aggressive reply - "if you can't stand the heat get of the kitchen" style.

This isn't supposed to be a forum for aggression, it is supposed to be a forum for green issues.
There really should be a "green issues are crap" forum - boy, would it be full!

So why don't you boys just toddle off back to the "science is god, evidence is everything" forum

I fully expect this post to be locked or deleted by morning too - hey, we can't have this sort of dissent allowed here - free speech! :eek:Off topic

There's no point in hanging around here if you are really interested in green things, I am off to find an open minded forum, preferably not privately owned so it doesn't matter if I am banned :)

Now I understand this guy - http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2055666093

    ***************
:D:o. . . is it just me or do other posters feel that some of the threads here are equivalent to someone posting in the soccer forum that hurling is yer only man, soccer's not a real sport, and why's the goal that shape anyway, etc . . . or in the campervan forum that campervans are a waste of space ? No problem with people holding those views, but this is supposed to be a forum for discussing 'green issues'. Maybe there should be a 'non-green issues' forum for the antis to post in and discuss how massive monoculture is a good thing, and sure it didn't harm our parents.

It's like any time green or organic or some other buzz words are mentioned, the 'hurlers' come out and start telling us all there's no such thing as organic and what's it mean anyway, and there's no evidence, etc . . .

I've been lurking in this forum for a while - admittedly my first posts here weren't my finest hour - but it just seems like there's a crowd of antis just waiting to swarm on anyone innocent enough to think that 'green' is good. Discussion is good, but continuously arguing against what I would see as the raison d'etre of the forum is a little deadening.:o:D

Yes it's a wast of time. Monty Pythons argument sketch comes to mind.
It's like a counter croup with the aim to disillusion people and keep them in the dark and afraid of disturbing the status quo ;)

I know I am not the only one who feels like this, thanks for the support.
and thanks for addressing the issue - which is why do the negative heads jump down peoples throats so quickly when it comes to green topics?

I thought that this forum would be place where people could receive helpful answers to queries, where we could get support and encouragement, where we could meet and communicate with like minded people who are concerned about the earth or curious about how to do things differently, how to do things while making less impact on the earth.

I did get answers to my first query and I am very thankful for that. Then as I started to read other posts I noticed a serious trend to shut down people. Maybe those who live in a dog eat dog world of big city life don't even notice it when they shut down people, perhaps it's second nature.

Sure we can come across a lot of waffle in green discussions everywhere (I don't mean here) - if it doesn't interest you then don't get involved. You don't have to jump down someone else's throat just to prove how much you know or belittle them for their opinions.

How do we learn if we aren't given the space to explore?

By learning to actually defend your views against people who don't necessarily agree with you, maybe? If you can't do this, then maybe you need to re-examine the validity of those views rather than shooting the messenger.

I personally dislike the idea that all special interest forums should be some kind of safe havens where the 'baddies' are kept out and no contrary or realistic views can be heard, where everyone just settles down into some little love-fest agreeing with each other and patting each other on the back. There are plenty of those around already.

It’s supposed to be a forum for discussion, not a forum where all opinions of the “green” variety go unchallenged. If you have a problem with my moderation of this forum, take it to the Help Desk.

Next person to start a thread ranting about moderation will be banned.
