Iphone Jailbreak - There must be an easier way!

I've been trying now for 2 days.

I've downloaded the firmware & the Redsn0w 0.8. I've followed the steps like a zombie.

Every time it fails. Latest problem is after restoring the the firmware V3.0. When I attempt to start Redsn0w I immediately get a Windows error message

"redsn0w.exe has stopped working. A problem caused the programme to stop working correctly"

I'm ready to accept defeat. Can anyone recommend a location in Limerick where I can get the iPhone Jailbreaked & unlocked???

Hi Gerry, can you try it on another PC by any chance? I jailbroke my iphone yesterday and eventually figured out that even though my iphone had 3.0.1 firmware, it was the 3.0 restore file that I had to use. Once I figured that out, it worked ok. It sounds like maybe something in your PC deosn't like redsn0w? Or can you download redsn0w again, in case it got corrupted or something? I got it from http://thebigboss.org/hostedfiles/redsn0w-win_0.8.zip

Gerry, given that you were having problems downloading the ipsw properly with IE8 (I remember from the other thread ), MickH503's suggestion makes a lot of sense - maybe try re-downloading redsn0w again from scratch, using Firefox which you managed to download the ipsw with too...

I think I'm jinxed! I used a different laptop running XP and the Jailbreak succeeded. Thanks guys.

Now I'm doing the unlock and when I get to this step :

Step Six
Enter http://repo666.ultrasn0w.com/ as the source url and press the Add Source button.

I get this message: http://www.ispaziorepo.com NetDB: Open nodename nor servname provided or not known.

When I return to Cydia, still following the steps, the new still isn't recognised!

I've also tried geohot with the same result.

I'm so near......

The vodaphone sim just kicked in! Eureka!!!

Awesome . I'm envious now, my 3G is sooooo last year...

Anyway, you should be fine for awhile now - just don't let iTunes install a new firmware whenever one is installed (it'll ask you first). Usually, the guys developing the jailbreak have a solution out for each new firmware release about a week after it is officially released and that point, it's safe to update (if you want to).

I remember trying three different computers - XP, vista and Leapord - before it worked. Turned out to be the USB cable.
