    Folks,
I have an A-series Manta, and the inserts on both doors are like this pic. The chrome seems to have flaked off, theres a light grey surface underneath, and a brown surface below that again.

Is is possible to get this repaired to some reasonable level? I'm not looking for concours original or anything, just to improve the look. Is there thin 'chrome' tape available? Or any other suggestions?

    Thanks in advance!
    FP

You could try chrome sellotape....or you might strip off all the chrome and paint it the same colour as the car itself..provided its not chrome.
Its chromed plastic...there wont be a way of re-chroming it as its welded to the vinyl panel...

Are you sure the original finish wasn't powder coated black ?

    chrome sellotape

You could always just mask it off and chrome spray it.

    Foil tape....

Lidl sometimes sell it but you can get it in any good hardware store. it's made for sealing heating ducts, the big square ones you see in any good heist movie where the bad guy crawls through them to escape the cops:D

with a bit of pratice you can stick it on without creases and it will stick to anything;)

There is a guy out our way that deals in that kind of trimming, his name is Billy Kelly if anyone heard of him.

    chrome sellotape .

Just a reference to adhesive tape....;)

Its not a trim that can be replaced...its welded to the vinyl panel and would need to be cut off and replaced...near impossible ..
You could get a piece of stainless body trim and glue it over it...;)

    Thanks for the advice guys...
Might give the 'chrome sellotape' a go anyway. If I can get a roll thin enough it might be OK, I'd imagine it'd be nearly impossible to slice a thicker roll into a consistently thin strip.
Failing that I might try spraying, but that'll be a bit of a last resort TBH.
    Thanks again.

Put the tape on first , then trim off the excess carefully.....its cheap as chips, so you might not get right first time..;) Make sure you clean the strip or it wont stick...panel looks shiny, so armourall or other polish might have been put on..

I think you've just solved a problem I have. I have fibreglass replicas of chrome bumpers coming from the UK for my Derby project. I was going to paint them satin black but this wide foil tape might be just the job to make them look more authentic! Nice one ;)
