Is there a way of using my laptop to send texts ?. Is there a program that would use the bluetooth link to my N95 mobile or can I use Eircom ?

What mobile network are you with? By going to their website (i.e., meteor.ie in my case) you get 250-300 free webtexts a month, depending on the network.
You'll need to know your pin though.

Depends on whether you want to use your own mobile number or are willing to run a second one alongside it. Voda, O2 etc have browser based webtext options for post paid.

    Also companies such as....

    http://www.clickatel.com/

use voipbuster.com where you can get webtexts if your provider does not do web texts.

You top up with €10 and you are charged per text.

Thanks for all the advice. I am on Vodafone & get free webtexts but they don't support contacts import from the N95.

Without this webtext is not worth while as it is too slow to look up & type the number.

If you have your contacts in your Mac Address Book, you can use my EirText for Mac app to send free webtexts from your Vodafone (or any other provider) account:

Just to let everyone know I found a brilliant text widget on the Apple site that uses bluetooth to communicate with your phone.
