06 Vectra (few Qs)

Its an 06 Vectra (1.6 petrol), what oil is best, 5W40 or 10W40 ? Reason I ask is, I've no manual (friend, who has manual says 5W40), and local mechanic says 10W40 !!
The reson I'm topping up the oil is that the car is making a 'humming' noise, but its only really prominent in 4th & 5th gears !! Mechanic says (over phone)it could be low in oil, or he also mentioned gear box !!!!
Last Q, is it still covered by original (3 year) warranty, as I bought it 2nd hand last year ?

Edit: reading this it says 0W30 !!!!

Before you put any oil in have you checked the oil level to see if it's low? Too much oil can do damage too.

I'd go with the manual or castrol website for type of oil, 0W30 will be best and most expensive of those 3.

3 year warranty still stands, provided it was serviced at recommended intervals using the correct parts.

    Thanks Tipsy Mac.
I took the car to a local mechanic to have a listen to the noise, and after a quick drive of it, he's pretty sure its a wheel bearing making the noise.
He said it could cost a few hundred to repair. (Anyone any idea on this ?)
Also looking at the opel.ie website its says the manufacturer warranty is 24 months (2 years), so it looks like I haven't a leg to stand on there !!
    warranty
