And i applied for the license in the motor tax office in smithfields in Dublin.
They say I'ld get the license in post to my Dublin address by around tuesday/wednesday-ish.
But as I'm currently living in Limerick, it'll be a little later till I can collect it.

So my question was do I need to wait till I get the lerner permit thing before I can start driving/getting lessons or can I get some lessons straight away??

sorry if i ask too many quesstions... just a little eager to get started!:o

Yep, you'll have to wait til you have it, you can't even get insured before you have the licence as you have to provide them with your licence number. And most professional driving instructors won't give you a lesson unless they see your licence first.

Hang in there, and congrats on passing your theory test:D

    Edit:
Sorry, not your licence, your Learner Permit hehe

Get started now, my 14 year old son has had a driving lesson but not on the public road.

That's the right way to go about it, my mother started teaching me to drive on our own property when I was about 14 and it was brilliant to learn the basics

Well many of us don't have the luxury of property, certainly not enough to drive on, but if you do then it's a good idea.

Anyway the matter at hand, your licence. Officially no, you're not allowed to drive without it, at all, ever. But in reality, all you need for insurance is the number, which is the number on your receipt, and if you're stopped by the Gardaí, again you should have the licence on you, but really you have 10 days to produce it at a station of your choice (as long as you're nice about it! they can give you a fine, at their discresion, for not carrying it).

Now that's the law explained, but there's more to it. If you've your own car the insurance company may want to see your permit before they'll cover you, or they might even want a copy of it. Mine didn't but I had the permit a good while before that anyway so it didn't matter. And if you're going with a professional instructor, he'll definitely want to see it before you go anywhere. I remember when my mam was learning to drive, she brought her receipt with her, but I don't think you'd get away with that nowadays, what with ADI's and that...
