Queer Beers?

This place used to organise a meet up of people for a few drinks

Does anyone think we should try that again?

It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.

    Sounds like fun :)

I'd be up for it - college doesn't start back for another month and I have no job, so alcoholism seems like a decent way to pass the time.

You're more then welcome. I should point out that though I'm not organising this event, heterosexuals have always been welcome at queer beers and I can't imagine that changing. So if you like, bring your straight friends, the more the merrier.

I'll try to make it if I'm free.

Any ideas about a venue and date?

if I'm in the country and not working down the other end of it, I'd go.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,905 ✭✭✭Aard

I suggest September; any later and people will start forgetting about it...

And for venue, I'd say Dragon on a Monday (cheap drinks, iirc). It's easy to get a large group-space at the front. Front Lounge doesn't really have a large enough seating area. Same with Panti. The George ... I really just don't wanna go in there :) I'd also prefer not to go to a straight bar (I don't know what the Queer Beers tradition is reagarding this though).

    What do yous think?

Dragon sounds good to me - I see what you mean about the Front Lounge and Pantibar and not really having an area suitable for a group.

traditionally we've hit some straight bar.

I'd prefer this, personally. Not too bothered though.

If the vote's for gay bar's only -- Panti's would get my vote. Not a huge fan of the Dragon... PantiBar's a bit more laid back (depending if there's anything on that night, I guess). Also, plenty of space downstairs if it's needed.

I agree, I prefer Panti's. Can be hard to get a word in edgeways in the Dragon sometimes.

    lol queer beers. Cool name.

I'd suggest a quiet bar on a quiet night as a social event its best if people could talk to one another. Sub lounge on tara has become very popular with boards beers, then there's places like the longstone beside the screen cinema.

    October 2nd?

Time for a poll me things, whose organising it?

    2nd of Oct sounds good!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,905 ✭✭✭Aard

Would a Friday night be that quiet? I've never been to Sub Lounge, so I have no idea :$

The week ending Friday 2nd Oct would be the latest I can attent; after that I'll be abroad.

Compared to the dragon on a Friday night those places are as quiet as churches, but they're just random ones off the top of my head. We could go to the white horse which would bring back memories. Tbh, I can do any night of the week, but I feel few others are in the same position.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,905 ✭✭✭Aard

Yeah you're right - us Dubs should try to make allowances for those travelling up from the country.

I can also make any night of the week.

I think Fri nite while not quite might suit those who are travelling and even those who are working and sure it might be better if its not too quite we mite not have anything to talk about!!

    Looks like you are :D

The sub lounge can get very busy, found the harbourmaster to be very quiet on a friday and it's just the same distance down the quays.

I'll be away most of the month, definitely not in a position to be ringing places and booking tables. Harbourmaster is a nice bar and definitely up market enough to be gay friendly.

Was in it a few weeks back with a small gang and on a Friday and there was no need to book, they also do some rather nice wines.

Oh yeah a queer beers down in the docks, there I said it :D but there are unlikely to be any sailors. :)

The Vaults has two for one on a Friday but they serve you twice as slowly.

They have been known to hold gay nights whilst also not being a gay bar.

Excellent - was wondering if there would be much interest - then completely forgot about it
