is it possible to spilt sky like ntl??

I will be getting it in and at the min the kids all have basic cable in the rooms is it possible to use the sky box and split it in the same way. I have no phone line so sky wont allow me multi room is there any thing else i can do??? A friend has her old sky box can this be connected to the dish and used for just the fta channels or does it need a sky card with it??

You can split the signal from the back of the box but this will only give you the same channel on each tv, in order to see a different picture, your best option would be an old sky box or a fta box in the other rooms but you will also need a terrestrial aerial in order to see the the four rte channels.

thanks guys i have an old sky box and since its for the kids room i think that might do as long as there are some free to air kids channels

you can get a little infared thing from maplin that lets u watch tv in another room with all the channels AND your able to change the channels without interfering with the other tv and get the different channels. it can be done spend a little time getting it right then you'll have exactly what you want

there are a few of them, and not too expensive, in store they can advise you of best one for you, my parents use on for sky

Each satellite receiver needs a separate feed, that can't be split.

The other solutions just pipe the SAME picture (everyone has same channel).

You cant watch two different satellite channels with that device. You are probably watching and changing analog channels in one of the rooms.

Absolutely.

The easiest solution for you is to get a quad or octo lnb for your dish, ask the sky guy about it .

You can pick up cheap sky boxes on adverts.ie and just run a seperate line from the dish to each box.
This way you can have people in different rooms watching different channels.


I got an octo fro about 45 euro on adverts and I picked up 3 sky boxes at a boot sale for 75 euro.

With the amount of FTA channels this keeps everyone happy.

thanks for that is it allowed to just use it for FTA if i ask him for the octo lnb will i have to explain why and if so will i get in trouble for it??? Do you know if it will cost extra to get the octo should i make sure and have some spare cash?

yes it will cost you extra for the octo, and yes you should have some spare cash handy if you're going to ask him to run extra cable for you.
I don't think the sky guy will care what you want an octo for because you'll be paying him for any extra work he does.
