Software Engineers

    Hi

Im working as a software engineer as a job title and was wondering what the geneeral feeling of the title is amoung fellow engineers.

I graduated from Computer Engineering, later renamed Electronic Engineering with Computers. Im not sure but I heard its because Computer Engineering and Software Engineering are not exactly recognised by many Engineering bodies, like IEI or IET. Dont quote me on that though!

Should this be the case or should Software/Computer Engineering be striken from the engineering lists.

IET fully recognises software engineers and has done so for at least 20 years. What makes you think they don't?

IET was an example of an Engineering body, I didnt mean that they dont recognise software engineers, although i can see how what I said would lead you that way.

My main question is would you accept Softwaree Engineering as an engineering discipline, seeing as there are still many quarters which do not accept it as one.

..would you accept Software Engineering as an engineering discipline..?

IMO, definitely, and without hesitation. In fact, I'm surprised to learn that there are quarters where that's not accepted.

Pure software design (by which I mean developing a software product) is a specialist discipline because of the specific methodologies, but it remains an exercise in creative problem solving and design to meet a specified requirement.

Perhaps a more contemporary question is whether "electronics engineers" can any longer be solely hardware or solely software, since both disciplines are required in modern design?
