I've never seen a flashing red light in Ireland before, but I have seen it in America. In America, it serves the same purpose as a Stop sign afaik. You must come to a complete stop if a red light is flashing, but you may go once you know the way is clear.

I'm not sure whether the rule is the same for Ireland. Where abouts in Ireland did you see a flashing red light?

No, regular traffic lights... Saw it in Cork few years ago... and in Limerick more recently. They're the only two times I've seen it though

Probably a fault with the lights...in which case use caution and treat it as a normal junction giving way to traffic from your right ;)

Remember seeing them in Tallaght for an entrance of an fire station a few months ago. When we saw them going off we had no idea what it meant but then we saw the sign telling us what it meant.

A fire-engine flying out in front of them? I'd take that as a pretty clear sign! :D
