    Hi All,

I'd appreciate some advice please on the following matter:

A friend bought a toshiba laptop the other day from Laptopsdirect.co.uk The model is as follows: TOSHIBA Satellite Pro A300-2C2 - C2D

    This is the spec. page:

    http://www.laptopsdirect.co.uk/Toshiba_Satellite_Pro_A300-2C2_Laptop_PSAG9E-023010EN/version.asp

The spec says that it is wifi enabled but when I try to search for wireless networks, the computer says that there is some hardware not installed

There is a swith on the front panel that allows me to turn on or off the wireless function and also, when I go to the FN8 key, that also says that the wireless is enabled. However, the computer again says that it is disabled.

I noticed that there is no card in the side of the computer. Should there be and if so, should the computer have come with it installed seeing as the laptop is wifi enabled, which was one of the main things that I was looking for?

    Help please :)

Ok, the card is embedded. Normally near the RAM. It looks like a driver issue. Did you get a CD with the computer? Run it and install all the drivers.

What OS are you running? XP Or Vista? In XP:

Click Start > Connected to... > Wireless

    And then us what happens.

    Hi,

It has Vista as the OS. When I got to start -> connect to ->it asks for broadband or dial-up. there is no wireless option available. There is a radar gimmick thing on it that when I activate it, it boots up and then just says that the wireless device is disabled even thought the switch is on on the front panel. The underneath of the laptop has a sticker saying wifi and radio evice contained within.

Open the Device manager and see if there are any driver issues.

You may be missing a driver. You should also be able to enable the device from here if it is disabled.

Would it have anything to do with the Network Controller in device Manager? It says that Windows could not find the device

Indeed it could. You should be able to find the relavant driver on the Toshiba website.
