    Hi All,

I have been looking at changing the car to a 05/06 320CD and when I look at UK prices Vs Irish prices there is about 1k difference so not much of a saving to be had anymore it seems. Is anyone seeing a similar pattern with other models?

Maybe makes more sense on a brand new car.

    Rgds

The margins are definitely narrower Tony, but I reckon for variety and specifications, you can't beat the UK.

are you including the price of VRT when your comparing?

As someone said, you'll probably be able to locate a higher spec car in the UK compared to here - but on paper, the money looks much closer than it did before.

When I was buying my car (Saab 93) the trim levels I was looking at where the same price (including VRT) in both Ireland and the UK. Went for on in Ireland but there was a better selection in the UK

Be careful of confusing ROI asking prices with what would actually secure the car - we seem to be a lot more open to discounting here than they are in the UK.

If the OMSP figures quoted by the VRT people where a bit more realistic it would make importing the cheaper option. The OMSP's are completely over inflated.

You might be able to pick up better spec in the Uk for similar prices, but when you go to sell your import (lets say in 2 years) its not going to be worth just as much as an Irish car. Dealer wont value it the same anyway... I really dont see the point in importing unless its on high-end machines

Ah but then it would make the Irish new cars cheaper too. Did you not think about that! OMSPs apply to all new Irish cars aswell. If they were cheaper new then they would be cheaper second hand too. And anyway as I've been saying for months now , UK cars are more expensive and have been for a while now. Its no longer worth while going to the UK for a car. Irish discounts are huge, UK discounts are tiny. Ignore the asking price in the window of any Irish car. You'll get 500 quid off a 3500 car straight away, probably 2 grand off a 15-20 grand car without asking. You wont get 500 quid off a 20 grand car in the UK. ;)

Errrr it must depend on the car.

I brought in a 06 VTR spec Citroen C4 HDi , for 6500 cleared in March

    Absolutely mint.

Nothing like it for less than 10,000 on carzone now.

    18000 miles FSH of course.

    No warranty, no part ex.

I was across visiting friends so the only extra expense was dropping the flight and 120 yoyos for the ferry.

oh and about a tenner in Diesel.........lol

An OMSP is supposed to reflect what that particular car is selling in Ireland for - isn't it? Well my point is that I find a car and see that the OMSP for it is far higher than any equivalent car I can find for sale in Ireland.

I've never had any issues trading in an imported car vs irish car.
