    Ive never seen one!!

Its not the crap red and green glasses u are watchin em with is it? I think there is a new kind of screen or sumtin that 'avatar' and 'tintin' are using where you wont have to wear them glasses. U still have to put some type of glasses on but not them old Freddy style ones!!

    Oh im in Clare. Sorry!

no no no, its not the red and green ones, they're ancient. The new glasses are like proper glasses, with clear plastic to see through. Ive seen a few films in 3D, nightmare before christmas, monsters vs aliens and ice age, prob a few more too. Its just a bit of a pain wearing galsses over my glasses :P

although it was a bit of a strain (because of the wearing glasses over glasses thing) it was awesome, like really cool. I was actually amazed with the first film i seen, i couldn't believe it, like there was actual depth of field. The moves didn't rely on stuff jumping out on you either, it was just cool 3D.

I've only seen animated films in 3D, so it will be interesting seeing Avatar in 3D

no probs :D. I think the screen they use is a digital projector or something. So there would still be a few oldish cinemas that wouldn't have the capabilities to show it. But most new/ recent Cinemas would deffo be showing it in 3D

The Omniplex in Limerick has a 3D screen, its the cinema beside the Crescent shopping centre if you know the city. And yeah you wear glasses but not the crappy paper ones with green and red plastic on them, these are much better, cant wait to see the new Final Destination in 3D, blood and heads flying everywhere :D

Isnt the 3D for Avatar suppose to be another level up from the recent 3D movies of the last year or two. I think the cinemas will have to be changed to accomodate it. Not sure though.

Most cinemas I know have 3D screens... Movies @ near me always has 3D on. I'll have to see Avatar in 3D :) I remember reading in Silicon Republic I think, that Ireland has the best coverage of Digital cinemas in the world, or at least is very high up there

This is true. Because of the low population & high cinema patronage we have here (we account for 15%-20% of UK gross), the projection companies put in heavilly discounted equipment to launch the technology.

New 3D projectors and screens need to be installed for a cinema to be able to show the new '3D' films; and these costs of fitting out the screens are being passed on to the customers through the higher ticket prices.

When they used the old red and green cardboard glasses in the 80's for Jaws 3D etc they had to project 2 images, from 2 projectors, simultaneously.

Now it's a digital projector, with a 3D equipment add on; there is a thing called the z-screen which flips down in front of the projectors lens and when the picture projects through it the picture is split/layered; then the filter in the lenses of the glasses you wear tricks the brain into combining the 2 images together creating the 3d effect.
