Now we've all been swept along in the spider-related craziness of the past couple of days, and I dismissed earwig horror stories as nonsense. (Though I have always had a problem with the ass-claws) But look at this, could it be real?

I didn't click the links, but i heard once that the "ear" in their name is to do with latin for tail or something. Not actual ears.

I hate earwigs too, but not as muach as thier lesser known but much more unpleasant relative, the much hated "Jap's Eyewig" rumour has it that Attenborough will never discuss his experiences.

P.S. I love saying that the most dangerous insect in the world is in fact the "Hepatitis Bee"

I remember as a child having this terrible fear of having an earwig get inside my ear, only cos somebody told me they could .So I made sure I took cotton wool with me on any camping trips .It worked, little B'tads never got in;)

I think you'd know if there were bugs in any of your head canals. Apart from the microscopic ones that everyone has.;)

Anyway, the pic/x-ray is a fake as the ear canal doesn't stretch that length and what is one of the guys/gals molars doing below the jaw?

I remember when I was small, on holiday my brother just started slapping the side of his head, of course everybody around avoided him and said things like 'poor child, how do the parents cope' when we got over to him he told us something had got in his ear, he was hitting the other side of his head so much that it fell out and yes it was an earwig. For the rest of the holiday everybody called him earwig too.

Maybe the OP isn't true, but this is: picked up the phone one day, a few years back, and an earwig came out of the ear part!!! I nearly sh*t. Probably just a coincidence (I don't think earwigs habitually wait to pounce out of phones), but nevertheless it was pretty unnerving :)

I clicked, and then had one of those involuntary shivers.

edit: just had another few. Didn't know the bastards could fly as well!
