Laptop not picking up broadband

Dont know if this is the right forum so mods do as you will.... But anyway my housemate has a dell inspiron 6400. We've just got internet courtesy of ntl installed however his laptop is not picking up the wireless at all. But its picking up the neighbours internet if only slightly and of course my laptop is picking it up…

Dont know if this is the right forum so mods do as you will....

The wifi is definitely turned on his computer and we tryed changing the firewall settings but no joy.

So anyone out there got any suggestions?
