What other motoring forums are you a member of, and what do you make of them?

Boards motors is sort of the daddy of them all, being the biggest (doesn't mean best tho;)).

Among others I'm also a member of g2ic.com, primarily US-based but the guys on there have encyclopedic knowledge. Non-cliquey, I'd consider it probably to be the best car forum I'm a member of.

Also a member of GreenHybrid. Also full of very enlightened people, and like g2ic no-one talks down to anyone and nor are there any irrational fanboys or cliques.

So what are you a member of?
    Why?
    Is it any good?

    :)

but even when you bother replacing the **** in the url with a well known four letter swear word beginning with F, it's a rubbish site.

I'm on seatcupra.net-thats a great site really. Order bits and pieces from one of the lads on there and get great discounts and free delivery. Lately been hawking around vagdrivers. Some very nice members cars on that. Always good for the pictures! Go on honest john too but its quite boring. Everyone seems to be way too polite for my liking...and the average age has to be a good 60 odd...

Sorry, replace the asterisks with the F word.

http://www.bmw-driver.net/forum/ - prefer it to here as the content is more to my interest and doesn't move quite as fast so can keep up..
Here is still great tho. :p

I'd spend most of my time on Octane. Fairly cliquey but entertaining nonetheless.

Lurk a bit on vagdrivers, for the pictures of Mk1 & 2 Gtis.

Spend a lot time on Rennlist. Some extremely knowledgeable and friendly members over there. A million miles away from the usual American motoring forums. Super forum.

6speedonline and teamspeed for the pretty pictures.

Last but not least, barryboys.co.uk - probably one of my favourite sites on the web, if only for the welcome they give to the newbies!

I'm on bimmerforums.com, specifically, the E38 7 series section. 95% American so they all have the V8s, but the 40-50 guys on there know more than all the BMW dealers in the country combined.

From now on I will actually give serious consideration to a cars online following before deciding what next car to buy, i've saved and learned packets.

I setup and run miniclub.ie, but I spend a lot of time on northamericanmotoring.org (MINI related), and totalMINI in the UK.

www.alfaowner.com is a mine of information. Not a regular poster on it though.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,718 ✭✭✭.Longshanks.

Im a lurker on www.dtdirl.com, but get lots of info from www.vxronline.co.uk It can be a great site if after info etc, but can be a bit repetitive at times. People don't seem to know how to use the search buttons!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,663 ✭✭✭stealthyspeeder

Mazda3forums.co.uk is always open on my desktop as is the motors section of boards.ie (I find this wierd but I prefer this website later on in the week, as people seem to spend less time having a go on roadrules and guff, and tend to talk about fast cars on thursdays and fridays! anyone else noticed this phenomenon!??)

Im also on reallymeansounds.com for the Northern Irish petrolhead banter, and the pics of the members cars and reading about the epic (and terrible) modding that some of those guys do!

    amazing website.

here...obviously, but its more like a "General Motoring" forum than anything technical.
vagdrivers.net (Great site, if a bit slow for Skoda/Audi talk/tech)
briskoda.net (Excellent for my VRS, sound lads on it too, helpful)
    vwaudiforum.co.uk (Good info for the boss's A3)
audi-forums.com/8p-forum/ (again for my wifes A3)
civinfo.com/forum/ (great for the new shaped civics, used it before mine went back)

Let's see, there's Octane.ie (cliquey me hole), Pistonheads, VWVortex, vagdrivers, I'll them browse daily, then depending on my humour and what I'd like to buy next, , I'll have a read of miniclub.ie, mx5ireland, mx5nutz, ikcc.ie. from time to time I'll have a browse of the HAMB, Driver, dtdirl, I also joined afterdarkcruisers, for a laugh...

There's something for everyone at this stage, I prefer non-marque specific boards, life's too short to commit to a single carmaker! That said, single brand boards have their uses as well, especially when you're thinking of buying.
