    Hello

We were in with the Gresham and are well impressed. Seems like a nice venue.
My one concern is photos. Does any one out there know any one who married there - the garden of remembrance isn't up to much.
There is always the option of St Stephens green... I'm just worried about the logisics. I would love to hear from someone who has already done it.

ALSO.. anyone ever been to a venue at the Shelbourne, Alexander, Daveport or Mont Clare... we're going to check them out next.........they are more suitable in terms of location to parks for photos.......:p

If nothing else, we're getting fun days out :D

Well the Gresham wouldnt be one for me, there used to be a nightclub there that was seriously dodgy years back a family memeber had an incident there. Seriously dodgy back then, the nightclub closed down within a couple of months of that incident, possibly a nice hotel though.

I went to a wedding in the Shelbourne, about 10 yrs back and oh my God the place just blew me away, now this would have been full on everything no expense sparred but I dont think I will ever come across a venue like it.

Now one thing to bear in mind with any of these parks / gardens permission is required to have photographs takin in them professionally, anyone with an slr will require permission and the Office of Public Works and they will also need insurance up to 6.5million in public liability, most photographers will have this but I have come across some who did not even know it was required.

Well, Smelltheglove, aren't you the cheery little one.
I liked the Gresham and so far as I know, there have been no reported stabblings of late:(

Look I'm just being honest, you want to know has anyone any experiences so here you go this is my experience, it had a drastic affect on my family and obviously I wouldnt be prone to the venue because of it.

Like I said possibly a nice hotel but if you would be going for the Shelbourne I doubt you could ever top that! A truly amazing venue, everything was top class, service was absolutely amazing, I have not tasted a wedding dinner have as good ever since, I have never seen a group of people being treated so well ever since either, the place was like a dream come true, by all means if your budget stretches to it then jump at it! As you can see my experiences of the two are quite different and I am sure you will be blown away yourself when you see what they have to offer.

Maybe you should have indicated in your original post that you only wanted positive info. about the Gresham;)

For me I think the Gresham is one step up from the Royal Dublin. The location just des not compare to the Shelbourne.

Sorry, I don't particularly want negative or positive reviews. The question pertained particularly to a wedding at a venue. We all have HORROR stories about O'Connell street area. There have been stabbings and such in Stephens green also... does that put the Shelbourne out of the running.

Obviously the Shelbourne is the superior hotel... or so you would think.
Since it has been revamped - if you research online there are many many negative reviews about it.

But I am specifically asking for questions about Wedding experiences. How the room was laid out, service, meals etc.

    :)

As far as I know the chefs are still the same. Also was it not just the main hotel that was revamped??? The wedding we attended was reached a few doors down from the actual hotel entrance.

The Gresham experience was on the grounds of the hotel, i.e. their nightclub and the treatment over it was quite disgraceful. Whether it is a wedding or any event I think a hotel should treat all people the same to be honest. If I walk in to stay over night I should be treated just as well as a bride or groom. The Shelbourne did that, I decided against the Radisson in Cavan for my own as I felt like the staff were looking down their noses which can happen in some posh hotels but definitely not the Shelbourne. The location and hotel are both far far superior.

My sister had her reception in the Gresham in 1994. From what I remember the food was fine and service was fine. However, they did try to scam my Dad on the wine and charge for 80 bottles more than were used and several of the hotel rooms were broken into during the reception and money, cameras, etc were stolen. The hotel was very reluctant to do anything about this. However this was 15 years ago and things may have changed.
Re: photographs, there were no gardens at the hotel but lots of outdoor shots had been taken at the church so this didn't bother my sister or her husband.

Well for those who fought valiantly for the Shelbourne, I have to say I am none too impressed and I have not yet stepped foot in the venue.
They neither returned my calls or my emails...

The company is now under the umbrella of the Mariott.. and when you email it goes to the US, who in turn forward it to the UK, putting you on copy of course, so you can see that they have done their part.. and then it sits in a black hole.

So you telephone and explain your situation - that you require information and would like to arrange to come in and meet.
They relucatantly take your name and number and have yet 3 days later ... to call me back.

It may have the appearance of the superior venue, and it may well be better located to the park... but in my opinon I wouldn't trust these guys to organise beans on toast, let alone my WEDDING

    Hi

Any photographers or previous brides with experience of photos in and around the Gresham.

We're seriously considering this venue, we're just concerned that we'll be limited with photo ops.....

    ANY ADVISE out there

    ;)
