You sure the Battery is fully charged? I've had a few people call me who always forget once i point it out and they check?

If not the Battary, Try it Plugged in without the Battary.

    Then see if its works.

Tried that, doesn't work either... the advent screen comes up first like it's loading then it goes blank.

What Operating System do you use? If you use Vista or 7, you can boot from the DVD and select a Repair option which will try to fix anything wrong with startup.

hey, take out the battery and power cable and hold the power button down for about 30sec, it might be a static discharge. put the battery back in and see if it works. its a long shot but its very common.

    what os are you running

Advent should have a hidden recovery partition.
Constantly tap f10 after switching on..
You should get a message "Starting System Recovery" .

or you can download the recovery vista disc(s)
    http://neosmart.net/blog/2008/windows-vista-recovery-disc-download/
32 and 64bit available on torrent

    120MB download

    Burn with imgburn

Yeah it's vista we're running, will try that.

Sorry, I'm a n00b... I have to extract the file before I burn it onto a disc, right???

Once downloaded it should be an .iso file
Just use imgburn to burn the image to the disc

It would only need to be extracted from a compressed file ie; rar,zip or 7 file

Thanks Rebel, have done all that, loaded it into laptop. It told me to press any key to boot from cd/dvd, done that, have a blank screen with a cursor at the moment... been like that for five minutes.

I take it you have set you bios to boot from CD/dvd first if not go into your bios and change it to boot from Cd/dvd first hdd second

Ok, done this and now it's asking for product key... assuming it's the thing on the bottom of the laptop? Entered it and it's saying it's not valid...

Do you have any important documents/mp3s/etc on the laptop? If you do, I'd advise trying to get them backed up before trying a restore/recovery.

If this is the case, download and burn something like Knoppix to get booted onto the laptop, and recover what you need from the hard drive unto something like a USB stick.

The version you download is not the correct version for your machine

Your product key should look something like this

    9JAAY-7Q8P8-CTGFT-KYITU-X865LO

It shouldn't be asking for a product key as you have not reinstalled the OS (have you).
The download for the recovery discs doesn't contain an OS just the recovery repair.

If you want you can bring the laptop out to me and I can take a look at it and see if we can get it back working.

Tried it both ways... and it's now bringing up a disc read error... PM'd you Rebel
