Just by way of information, doing my lsr in the park last night with running mate, exited the north circular road gate and shortly afterwards one of (a gang of) the colourful local youths decided to try and stab me, minor scratch luckily! but it's the second worrying incident in as many weeks (first was a shove from a similar stereotype youth). So no more running at night in the park for me.

What time was that at? Have you reported it? Never had an incident like that luckily, I usually stay on the southside of the park though.

It really bugs me that when your out training and minding your own business, you can unwittingly become a target.

I was cycling down the back of the pheonix park last year, coming down the hill towards the chaplelizod gate. As I cycled down, a blue punto came stroming up the hill. The next thing I heard was an almighty crack!.
The chap in the car had thrown a coin out the window, which took a chunk out of my helmet (If i was doing 20mph and he was doing 25mph then the coin was doing 45mph when it struck me).

It would have caused some serious damage if it had been half an inch lower.

As a rule I generally try to avoid running in the park at night, but if I do I stay on the main avenue and never run on a weekend night.

I still can't get over the fact they actually tried to stab you!
Did they say anything to you before it happened?

Have had stones thrown at me close to Kyber road car park, big ones which luckily only hit me where it didn't hurt. That was late enough on a Summer evening. From general experience and considering garda HQ is in the park it is remarkable how much scum bags etc actually get away with hanging out there in the late evenings.

I've had someone lean out of a van and try to push me off my bike. I've read similar horror stories to that in the cycling forum. What ever about random cat calls and silly comments. When it gets physical...
