What do you think of this car here?

    http://www.carzone.ie/search/Toyota/Yaris/DIESEL-1/200934194986986/advert?channel=CARS

My mother is interested and im just wondering what others might have to say about it.

    Does the mileage look ok?

How much do you think its worth if paying cash?

She went to see it today. To me, the left passenger door from one of the photo's there looks a slightly lighter shade?

She has one already and she's had a number of problems with it. She got an engine change, radiator change, Aircon stopped working, bearings went in some of the pullies etc etc.

Are they any good a car?

This one's a lot cheaper but still a bit expensive.

That's a big list. They're normally reliable though. A Fiesta or Grande Punto would be just as good (and you'd get an '06 for the same price)

Thanks for that. The one she has already is a red one but I think she likes the colour blue.

Wouldnt the fiats be less reliable than a Toyota? (although judging from her present yaris...) She'd be abit wary of them...

Looking at the Punto's there theyd be abit out of her price range I think. The diesel ones anyway.

mywheels.ie check says that that car hasn't been taxed in nearly three years!! I'd be asking why???

Would it be a British import?

diesel yaris's are rare enough and my mams is an import.

Although that webite is saying its not an import...

I dont know. Why would a car not be taxed for three years?

I wouldnt bother paying the extra premium for the diesel model. My friends petrol yaris gets 50mpg no problems.

She does alot of motorway driving, but I think the diesel can get 70-80 Mpg. I could be wrong.

It has been well established on here at this stage that the information from mywheels.ie is not always accurate.

Also €7k for a Yaris diesel approaching 6 years old is way too much. You'd want to be doing pretty big mileage to justify that premium for a diesel supermini.

I'm not really an Opel fan but my uncle has one of these for over 3 years and it's been trouble free. 1.3 litre Fiat engine is a little jem too.

The nicest thing about the Yaris D-4D is the power, it's a different car to drive than the 1.0.

From the problems you listed on your original post, was the car a Vitz Japanese import as opposed to a Yaris European model?

It was a european model. A british import.

There was a 'microscopic' crack in the engine block and it was leaking coollant through it. Or something like that.

never heard of that happening, sounds like you had one big problem as opposed to lots of little ones.

The aircon breaking and the pulley bearings going were probably unrelated. Things just keep going wrong with it.

a Ford Fiesta is a far better car it would hold its value better is better built and a better car for less than 8000 you can have a 1.25 fiesta zetec steel with alloys , air con , cd player , fog lights and low milage 2006 it is a better buy and can probably bought for 7000

don't agree with that at all, ford's don't hold their value anywhere near as much as a toyota. Ford are reliable but can be got for buttons.

I traded in my Toyota Yaris 1.4 D4D at Carroll & Kinsella, Blackrock in June. It was a 03 D with 37,500 miles. I bought a new Toyota Auris 1.4 D4D in June. I went in to buy a new Yaris 1.4 D4D but liked the bigger boot space and fold-down seats of the Auris. I looked at their website and see that my Yaris car is no longer there so they must have sold it (it was on their site for at least a month - things are slow). I had it from new and used it for three years to drive to work 13 miles x 2 daily. I took early retirement in 2006 and was only doing about 3k miles a year since.

It was a lovely car to drive. Mileage was 63 mpg in Dublin and about 75 mpg on a trip. I would highly recommend them. The diesel pulls better than the petrol imo around town and is a nicer drive. When I had mine in for servicing in 2004 they said there were only three diesel Yaris in the country then. I think the reason was they were €18,800 new while the 1.0 petrol was about €15,000 - a big difference at the low end of the market.

I would try to get it for €6,500/€6,750

I once went eleven weeks between tank fills, mostly driving locally, with a couple of trips to Kildare. :)

That is a lot of money for an old shape. You can get a new one for not much more. In '03 I got a '52 Yaris for £6k. Sold it for £2.5k a few months ago with 37k miles on the clock. That is the price you should be looking at.

They are a very reliable car, I had mine 6 years with no probs whatsoever. After my recent incidents with the TT, I wish I never sold him! lol

I had a petrol though and that was cheap to run, I can only imagine a diesel will be better.
