out before i commit to 18 month contract,

is there unlimited internet usage with o2 or how do they charge when not in a wifi zone, and then obviously if your at home and on wifi, does this cost anyting or use up your data allowance,

what plans have people generally gone for, i looking at the unlimited calls to o2 and landlines, and i heard theres app to get to use your webtext if thats the case id be sorted,

any other tips would be great,

In answer to your second query, there's an app called Eirtext which allows you to use the free 250 webtexts (texts sent online from the 02 website, user login required) on your iphone. Can send to any number, so you save money there.

To the first query, I think that the data allowance is for when you're using 02s coverage, and not, say, the home wifi. So you view 10mb worth of stuff on the 02 connection, then 10mb on the homo wifi, you've only used 10mb of your data allowance.

I think. Another will be able to clarify this.

You get a 1GB allowance on O2's data plans, wifi is not a part of this and you're not charged for it (as long as you're connected to a free hotspot or your home network).
Eirtext is one option, and it is NOT capable of VOIP calls. Jellysms is another option to use your free 250 webtexts from your phone.

WiFi is not part of your data allowance and not charged like Spoongibbon said - the 3G data allowance which is what you'll use when you're out and about is 1GB. This may seem pretty small when you think of your home broadband connection, but is more than enough for the iPhone. I use mine quite a bit on the go and haven't ever managed more than about 700-800MB in a single month.

    thanks for all the input,

can you find out when your close to your limit with the data allowance, and which plans have ye tended to go to , ive a mixed ranged of contacts with 02,vodafone,meteor, but the unlimited calls to o2 and landline looks good,

On the phone itself, under Settings => General => Usage, you can see the 3G data usage (it only counts 3G data, not WiFi so it's an accurate measure) and reset it whenever you want (e.g. once a month would make sense).

I would assume O2 has a way of tracking your usage online - not sure though as I'm with Vodafone (and they do have that facility on their site, on your account page).
