Few questions

I just wanted to ask a few facial hair-related questions.

    1. When I don't shave for a few days and get a bit scruffy, my face gets very irritated by the hair. It happened yesterday evening, and the last time I had shaved was Friday. It felt like there was a rash on my face, but there wasn't, it was just kinda itchy. Is this normal? At this point, I'll point out I'm only 18 and can't grow a full beard yet.

2.a I've heard that getting a hot towel shave when you're young isn't good for your face, is this true?
2.b Would I be alright getting a safety razor such as a merkur if I'm young?

    1. Ah, the itch. Yeah, it's normal. If I go for a few days without shaving, I get it wicked back on my neck. I think it's just my body reminding me I'm beginning to look a bit too scruffy, and go shave ;)

2.a I don't see why there'd be a problem, especially if you're shaving already. If you didn't have any facial hair it'd be a different story, I'd assume.

2.b Shouldn't be a problem at all - It used be the 'normal' way of shaving, and more young lads would have learned to shave on them.

But surely I should be able to grow a beard without being in immense pain?

The itch goes away after a few days... ;)

I managed to survive not shaving for 7 months and many many mannnnnyyy others have had beards much longer. It's not a problem, your face gets used it after a while.

Normal in my view, you can try using a face cloth or facial scrub to help exfoliate when washing or try using a light balm after washing your face.
I've found in the past the above helps the 4 day itch.

As long as you have facial hair I can't see an issue.

As mentioned above men in previous generations didn't have the choice.
I wish I'd started with a safety razor and saved myself the hassle and problems caused by using cartridge razors.

If it's immense pain over an itch, I'd be getting worried! Or get used to a daily shave ;)
