    Bypass diversion causes gridlock

THE GOREY bypass lay virtually empty on Sunday while hundreds of cars diverted through Gorey were caught in gridlock in the town.

Vehicles were sent in different directions after the northbound carriageway on the bypass was closed due to a the Éireman triathlon.

There was massive disruption as a result and motorists were further confused by misleading signposts.

Tailbacks, miles long, extended as far as Clough village as drivers attempted to get back onto the bypass.

I can't see this event being allowed to use the Gorey By-pass (180m euro!) next year.

Why the hell did they send one carriageway worth through Gorey? Surely a handful of bollards and have the southbound carriageway say, doing both north-south manoevres would have been better.

Why didn't they send the triathlon out the old N11?

TRAFFIC NIGHTMARE AS ROAD CLOSES FOR TRIATHLON

NIGHTMARE traffic delays returned to Gorey and much of the area ground to a standstill on Sunday when a section of the Gorey Bypass was closed to accommodate the Eireman triathlon.

Motorists travelling towards Dublin faced delays of several hours, at some stages the queues of cars stretching miles. Angry motorists besieged Gorey Garda Station with complaints, but the situation did not ease until after the bypass opened again.
