Just reading it again before I send it off in the post. I see in the "Notes" section, section (a) says...

"Applicants should hold a current firearms certificate and hunting license"

    Firearms certificate, check.

    Hunting license? Uhmm?

The hunting licence is part of your shotgun licence john as long as you dont have a 6 euro "farmers" licence..if youve a 25 euro shottie licence your good to go.;)

Just what is meant by the foreshore? Is it the tidal area of the coastline?

From low water mark to high watermark as far as I know.

yep , the foreshore licence allows you to shoot between low water mark and the high water mark, and on lakes and accretions belonging to the state- it doesnt give you right of access, you must enter the foreshore or lakes etc by right of ways or permissions etc and of course you cant shoot in sanctuary areas.

    http://www.npws.ie/en/NatureReserves/

this may help-look under protected sites-then- special protection areas and youll find your county, youll get the SI and a synopsis on the area.

no nature reserves in the area according to foxshooters post:D Is it only nature reserves you need the licence?
then again if you could shoot in a nature reserve it would be defeating the purpose of its own existence...

No the foreshore permit allows you to shoot on the foreshore excluding sanctuary areas, its becoming increasingly asked for when meeting rangers, although I know lads who regulary shoot foershore and dont have one.

the whole thing is irrelevant in my case, I have some good duck shooting within walking distance of my house. we'll have hundreds of swans in another few months and the occasional geese nobody bothers them can be some sight to see as they graze,:D

I know that there are Nature reserves in Connemara, and i did have a documents stating where, but i can not lay my hands on it now. I know Kilkerrin Bay and Greatmans bay are supposedly protected. Not to sure back towards Clifden.

I'll keep digging, its somewhere in the house.:(
