I am thinking of buying a Mitsubishi L200 Passenger Cruecab from a dealer in the in the uk it is 14,000 Excluding VAT,
If i submit a 411 form that i am removing the vehicle from the uk i understand that i have to pay the vat in Ireland,Now this is were i get a bit confused as it states in ireland that if the vehicle is more than 6 moths old or over 6,000 miles which it is i do not have to pay vat in ireland just vrt so do i not have to pay vat at all?,

There is a black hole of about 3 months.

UK Vat Rules State - Vehicles less than 3 months old can be exported from UK with VAT removed.

After 3 months - no entitlement to deduct Vat.

Irish Vat Rules State - Vehicles than are less than 6 months old imported must pay Vat on import. This is based on Sterling Invoice converted into Euro.

So as you can see that is a gap of 3 months black hole.

    Example:

If you buy a car that is 5 months old from the UK and import to Ireland - you will end up paying both UK Vat and Irish Vat. So becareful.

    Example 2:

What people where doing was buying a car in the UK less than 3 months old not paying UK Vat. Importing to Ireland but not registering till after 6 months old so they would not have to pay Irish Vat either. Revenue have clamped down on this.

    Does this make sense.

I've bought 2 L200's over the past 2 years in the UK, last one was 6 months old with 4,000 miles on the clock.

I presume it's a dealer your buying off? Easiest and cheapest job is to pay the VAT in the UK at 15% otherwise you will have to pay it here at 21.5%. You pay this to the dealer and they sort that end of things out. Unless of course you have a VAT number?

Once you do that then either print out the forms off the revenue website and post in your cheque with the amount you got off the VRT online calculator to VRT the vehicle or bring it to your local customs office and VRT it. I find posting them in easier as you don't have to drive anywhere or talk to anyone.

Then you get your irish plates and tax book.

Last step in this process is to appeal the VRT. I done this on my 08 L200 Animal CrewCab and clawed back €1900 euro ;)

Where abouts you buying it? The last dealer I bought off done me a very good deal and I found fantastic to work with, picked me up at the airport, put extra's on the vehicle etc.

Any questions send me a pm.
