Hi folks, I think this is my first post in the Kerry forum so please be nice :).

I have accepted a job offer with a company based in the Kerry Technology Park in Tralee and I would like some information on where would be the best place to live. I have a car and I am well used to doing hour long commutes to get home here in Galway but I would prefer to not have to spend so much time driving if possible!

When looking for somewhere to rent am I as well off to trawl through the likes of daft.ie etc. or is there a local rental agency or other resource that anyone could recommend?

Looking for? - apartment, house, house share or flat?, in town, close to town or out in the country?.

All are available close by (30 min - on a bad day) to technology park.

IMO the best bet is to come to Tralee for a day or two and get a feel for what you might like.

PM me if you require any further information.

Good luck with the new job.

I agree with the above, come down and spend some time first. Lots of good rentals 15 minutes drive from Tralee centre. Daft.ie is a good site for this also the local publications, such as Kerrys Eye has a good small ads section for accommodation. Likewise, any further info required just ask. Best of luck and its a great place to live, I'd never go back to Dublin in a million years.

Thanks for the info dh0661. I suppose I should have been a bit more specific regarding accommodation :). I would be looking for something reasonably close to Tralee itself. If it was within walking distance of a decent pub that would be great ;). A room in a house/apartment/flat would be the most suitable I think. I don't think my budget will stretch to renting an entire place by itself!

I will be travelling to Tralee tomorrow with an accommodation list drawn up from Daft.ie so hopefully I can find something decent over the weekend.

Thanks for the Kerry's Eye tip. I will be sure to check it out.

Thankfully I've managed to avoid having to move to Dublin. At least for now :).

I agree with the previous post about the Kerry's Eye. There are always lots of adds for all types of accomodation there and it is actually a Tralee paper and it is relatively cheap to put an ad in the paper, so more people would use it as opposed to the Kerryman which is dearer or the Kingdom, which is more a Killarney.
Another thing: If you dont mind commuting, there are a few small villages around Tralee and it would be cheaper to rent in one of these villages than in Tralee town.

There are flats/apartments (new build) over the Castle bar on Rock Street (really close to town center) don't know if any are available.

There are flats/apartments (new build) over O' Donnell's bar & restaurant Mounthawke, Cahersalee (out of town) don't know if any are available.

There are loads of places geared to student accommodation.

IMO stay clear of Edward Court, and I stress that's IMO.

BTW - call me Donna :)

Killarney is only 30mins away from KTP, i do it there and back every day
roads are mostly rural, the schools does not make a difference to my commute

Depends on what you're looking for, but Sunday's Well, Cuil Fuinne and the other new estate near them are fairly close to the Tech Park, quiet enough as they are on the outskirts of the town and taxis in and out of town for going on the beer are only €6. You'd be approx 1 mile away from the aforementioned O'Donnell's pub.
That said, Killarney would be a much nicer town for socialising, but probably that bit more expensive.

I've found a handy place just 5 minutes from work so that'll do me. It's a big improvement over the commute I used to do in Galway.

I'll be heading back to Galway most weekends for the next while but certainly after that I'll be looking for recommended pubs etc :).
